Ok, that's fine. Will there be a built in mechanism to check if there's a new version out? Or will it just rely on checking the website? If it relies on manual checking, I'd definitely need a nice big thing to tell me which version I have.

One interesting thing could be to take a look at roguelikes. Some very simple roguelikes have automatic equipment rejection/acceptance systems, sometimes based on very complex rules.
