Hi there, Loving this game so far, just got a few questions involving future combat updates. Sorry if all these have been answered before, did a quick search but didn’t find anything solid on any of them.

Will there be finishing moves you can do on unconscious enemies? Throat-slitting to drain their blood, breaking necks, decapitations and such?

Will the hand to hand combat do a lot more "shock" damage (although still far less over-all than actual weapons) to put people unconscious without doing that much physical damage to them?

Will there be intermediate bludgeoning only weapons that do half shock and half damage, but without much blood-loss, to make it easier to take prisoners?

I haven’t heard anything about shields, will there be shields?

Thanks in advance. going back to building my outpost now. :D

Sorry, I cant answer all your questions, but I know one... Limb severing and decapitations have been confirmed, don't know about actual finishing moves...

Not sure about it all. There has been little specific information on how things will work in these regards. I suspect it won't be too hard to make weapons with different values. I think it might even be possible for modders to make some of them now. Since Chris has said that he wants slavery to be a part of the game there should be some sort of system where you can take slaves. This MIGHT include weapons specially designed for knocking someone out with minimal injuries.

Yes, there will be finishing moves. Chris has confirmed it somewhere... I just don't remember where it was.

Decapitations has been talked about much but since it has serious balancing issues, it isn't 100% sure being implemented. But I think it is very likely to be in finished game.

There will be no shields.

I've heard there probably wouldn't be shields any time soon because of the extra work on a system that would allow wielding of multiple items, but never?

If so, do you have any link to where it's stated? The reasons? (I don't care all that much, combat is already epic with only weapons and armour, just would be nice to know why.)

*Thanks to everyone for the replies btw. =D

There will be decapitations in battle. There's this image; not sure if it's part of the kenshi trailer or just an image somewhere, of a fight in kenshi (in Chris' version, as in... His version has buggy things not implemented yet) where blood is erupting from someone's neck, but that says nothing about "execution-decapitations". Thats all I can really provide right now because it's 2 am. I might do some research for you tomorrow.

I tried to find the part where shields were denied but I couldn't find it. Strange... Maybe there's no real official statement that there will be no shields.

Don't see why it'd be hard to implement shields, since there's already a block action you'd basically just have to change the animation and/or a few stat factors

I'm pretty sure shields are going to be implemented... I think... At least that's what people have told me in the threads I've posted in and created...

"Will there be intermediate bludgeoning only weapons that do half shock and half damage, but without much blood-loss, to make it easier to take prisoners?"

these already exist in a sense, hackers do similar cutting and blunt damage... but they dont reduce blood loss. The big heavy weapons do all blunt(which means little to no bleeding), but the thing is the blunt they do is so massive that it can often kill people in a single hit, negating usefulness for taking prisoners. You can always just use a worse one or a character with low strength, but its not optimal. Eventually there should probably be a way to pull your punches.'

I think that when assassination skill (or whatever it was) is added, there will be way to sneak behind someone and stun him with something. Well aimed hit to back of targets head from baton, chock him to faint with rope or put black bag over his head and carry him to the hideout.

Chris said "Swords, armour, clothing, bows, maybe crossbows. No shields, because quite frankly, they're not cool. Shields are like the water-wings of melee combat. No magic, no potions, no magic healing. No guns, but primitive harpoon guns are used for turrets. No +1 nonsense."

Yeah, shields are really powerful in reality. Mount and blade blunt weapons are unnecessary as most opponents survive immediate combat. They can be stabilized and carried to what ever fate you wish.

I feel like if they implement crossbows, shields need to be implemented otherwise you'll just get owned. Shields are the only counter I can think of for a crossbow other than just taking the first hit and charging them, or using a rifle... both of those don't sound very appealing to me so hopefully just bows would be implemented.

Shields not cool? Shields are awesome...idk that logic. when i think of kenshi shields i think of round shields or bucklers, not huge tower shields or anything. And in mount and blade enemies mostly die if your men are skilled...so if you want prisoners you tell them to use blunt weapons

Still takes up time and precious medical supplies. Considering there's a "blunt damage" statistic for some weapons, I don't see why they'd be left out entirely.

* Also, what about wooden swords and things for training bouts?
