I think the money you see on defeated enemies is actually total faction wealth. So IMO the units you kill actually dont carry any funds. Maybe merchants would carry some and bandits would have some looted funds but i dont see any reason for soldiers/ninjas/cannibals to run around with cash in pocket.

hmmm, maybe if they were carrying payment, or payroll, or earnings. I do not see the cannibals buying from stores in town. Maybe from my faction however....

Well your squad mates have money, they just sem to not use it at all, the cats you pay to recruit must go somewhere as they do not go back to the faction credits, they do not change gear or so before you take them, nor seem to go get some booze, so for sure they do not use whe you get them.

Could this mea there is a personal money and faction money?
Guess that way yu would only loot personal, and for faction you would need to assault safes

I like hbrown's idea only, you have a safe say and when bandits raid you they have to break into the safe, alternately if you want to buy some thing in town you will have to give one of the characters money from the safe, which has the possibility to be stolen by bandits or other wise. And if we have personal money maybe we could have personal time. Like the guys going to town get to spend there money on things they want. Maybe if you have non permanent hire-able guards that will take the money you give them and buy upgrades. And if we start having permanent NPC that move between towns we can start having a real economy ;) Maybe start with trader NPC, that would be a good start.

I think I'm going to put this in the suggestions after a bit. Along with a good few other things
