Ch 13 - Window of opportunity 2 of 5

Liz: We are under attack!
William IV: Mercs! Do your duty!
Emilia: As you wish.

William IV: Damn commoners! How dare they attack a Holy nation town?!
Bandit 1: Who cares who owns it! We need food and water!
William IV: I swear I will have all of you executed!
Bandit 2: Die today or die tomorrow of starvation, I don't care which!

Set: We've got this!
Liz: Some of the bandits are fleeing.
William IV: Cut them down! Kill all of them!
Emilia: We will not chase them, m'lord.
William IV: What? This is an order!
Emilia: M'lord, our job is well being of this town. Chasing them will leave this town only half of guards.
William IV: Grrrrr, fine. So be it.

Emilia: Allow me to treat your wounds.
William IV: I will be fine. Execute the captured.
Emilia: As you wish.

Emilia: You heard him. Inspect those on the ground and finish them off if they are still alive.
Set: Ok, boss.
Liz: Hmph, leaving the dirty job to us, I see.
Emilia: That's enough, Liz.
Liz: Hmph.
Few days later

Soto: Under attack! To arms!
Gai: They are climbing up through a hill!
Soto: Damn, I didn't think that was possible. Time to build a wall there!
Emilia: Mercs, assist the guards!
Liz: That's a lot of them.

Bandit 3: We just want some food! You guys have plenty!
William IV: Imbeciles! This lands belongs to William III!
Bandit 3: Do you really think we care who owns what, you fatass?!
Willian IV: How dare you! You are dead!
Bandit 3: Fine by me! We won't last long without food anyway!
Bandit 4: At least we die trying!
Liz: ......

William IV: Bunch of imbeciles! Kill the captured!
Emilia: As you wish.

Liz: That William guy is ...
Emilia: Don't finish that sentence, Liz.
Liz: Fine. How long do we have to do this?
Emilia: Until he tells us to go home.
Liz: Sigh. I don't want to imagine what kind of person his father may be.

William IV: Merc, what is your name?
Emilia: It is Emilia, ser.
William IV: You've been doing your job quite well. I am most pleased.
Liz: [Whisper] Hmmph
Emilia: I am honored, m'lord.
William IV: You are unlike any mercenaries I've met so far. You have manners and some grace.

Liz: What a laugh.
Emilia: Well, if he is pleased with our performance so far, that's good news. He could add a bonus to our pay for all we know.
Set: Oh, yeah, that'd be a good idea.
Emilia: Have you seen Kyrria lately?
Liz: Last time I saw her, she was flattering with a guard.
Set: Why won't she flatter with me?
Asven: Probably because you are a loser.
Set: Damn, I am sad that I can't deny that.

Kyrria: Boss, after this job, I want to leave the band.
Emilia: Can you tell me why?
Kyrria: Yeah, there is a guard named Soto here. I've been talking to him lately and I think both of us get along well and both of us want to settle down.
Emilia: I see. You will settle down here, I take?
Kyrria: Yeah, you see that house Fraki is working on? Soto tells me that it is going to be his house.
Emilia: I see.
Kyrria: He claims he will be promoted to Aqua city guard captain soon. He's better than any of men I've slept with so far. They were all dorks. Soto is different.
Emilia: I understand. Mercenaries exist to earn money to retire. I don't blame you at all for trying for a better future.
Kyrria: Thanks.
Emilia: I will gather everyone and let them know on your behalf.

Emilia: Guys, Kyrria here is going to be with Soto after this job is over.
Liz: You are leaving?
Kyrria: Yeah, I am setting down.
Set: Damn, another good woman lost.
Asven: You have my blessings, miss.
Mato: You have mine as well.
After a week of chaotic time, bandit attacks on Aqua has slowed and the town has seen relatively quiet days.
And then one day...

Derran: Not in a million years did I expect you to find here soaking yourself in rum.
Emilia: Who might you be?
Derran: It's me, Derran.

Liz: We are under attack!

Derran: It's me, Derran.

Aqua at 50% completion.
Emilia: Derran? I haven't seen you for almost a year.
Derran: Yes..., I was away on a mission you gave me, remember?
Emilia: I didn't think it'd take that long. I figured you quit.
Derran: I couldn't even if I wanted to. I was told by someone to do whatever you would ask.
Emilia: ......
Derran: Speaking of which, I need to speak to you regarding what you asked of me.
Emilia: Alright, go on.
Derran: Not here. Too many ears nearby. Can we talk at Shark?
Emilia: I cannot leave Aqua at the moment.
Derran: Fine, I will be staying at Shark. Find me at an abandoned house in Northeast corner right outside of the town when you can.
Emilia: Fine.

Set: Holy macro, this is a lot of them!
Liz: This is the biggest bandit group I've ever seen!
Asven: They are poor souls. None of them has decent pants. Poor souls...
Emilia: Let's get through this people!
Set: Of course! Money awaits!

Liz: Damn, we spent the whole night fighting.
Emilia: We did manage to repel them.
Liz: We have lots of casualties. No deaths though.
Liz: Mato, Set, and Kyrria are down.
Emilia: I don't think we will be harassed any time soon now.
Liz: I bloodly hope so. I am sick of this job. I want to go home.
Asven: Ye.
Just few days later, Emilia was summoned to the guard house of Aqua.

William IV: Father, this is the mercenary in charge.
William III: I see. Your name?
Emilia: It is Emilia, ser.
William III: I know my son well and he does not easily praise others especially mercenaries. In fact, he has a bad tendency of looking down on others.
William IV: Father!
William III: Son, I've told you many times. We, nobles, may stand above commoners and the likes but, without them, we are nothing. We must respect them if we want to be respected.
Emilia: ......
William IV: ..... Yes, father.
William III: Lass, your task has been completed and here is the fair payment for your service.
A big bag containing 90.000cat was handed over the counter.
William III: For the job well done, I shall reward you two additional bonuses. Son?
William IV: Yes, well, here is the first bonus.
20.000cat was handed over.
William IV: And we've prepared an armor for you.

William IV placed a giant backpack on the counter.
William III: This is a plate armor produced by one of the finest armorsmith in the Holy nation. Obviously, I could not gift you a holy chest plate armor.
William IV: Bow before him. This is one of the highest honor a mercenary like you will receive in your life.
Emilia equipped the armor and was about to bow.
William III: Take off your hood if you do not mind. Allow me to see your face.
Emilia: As you wish.

William III: ! ......
William III stared at Emilia for a good while before he was disturbed by his son.
William IV: Father?
William III: Ah..., yes. Yes, of course. You are dismissed, Emilia. Good work.
Emilia: Yes, m'lord.

Liz: Please tell me it's over. And what's up with your sudden change of armor? You don't even have your hood on.
Emilia: The job's over. The armor was a bonus for the job well done. I even got a bonus of 20.000cat over the original payment.
Set: Yesssss, wooohooo!
Kyrria: That's good to hear. I am sorry that I am leaving.
Emilia: Don't be. I wish you good luck.
Set: Yeah, good luck, girl.
Mato: Yes.
Asven: Keep his pants tidy and clean.
Kyrria: I will.
Emilia: Alright, guys, it took a long time. We were here for more than 3 weeks. I am giving you guys a holiday. Let's break up and meet up back at our HQ few days later.
Set: Nice!
Emilia: I will divide the money right now so that Kyrria can leave.
Kyrria: Thanks.
Emilia headed to Shark and met Derran in an abandoned house.

Derran: Well, took you long enough.
Emilia: We had a job to do. You saw that.
Derran: Yes..., like I said you never expected you to be there.
Emilia: What's the meaning of that?
Derran: The one who was behind the incident about 3 years ago. He was behind it.
Emilia: Who?
Derran: William III.
Emilia: ......
Derran: William III gained a lot of popularity from taking out the smuggling operation and he was eventually granted his own town, Aqua.
Emilia: ......
Derran: From what I gather, he isn't a bad noble. He's kind to those who serve him and has a strong sense of justice. He treats even commoners fairly well and is quite popular among citizens. His adopted son, however, is a jackass or a typical noble.

Derran: My cover was partially blown and I had to disguise as a merchant but I obtained everything I needed to know.
He handed a leather parchment over to Emilia.
Derran: I've written everything I know on the parchment.
Emilia: How much do you want?
Derran: 25.000cat. My life as an informant is pretty much over. I need retirement fund.
Emilia: I see. Here.
Derran: ..... You are really giving it to me.
Emilia: Why are you surprised? You kept your end of bargain. I am keeping mine.
Derran: Except we never had an agreement over the payment initially and I am asking a lot of cat.
Emilia: True, but you did your job and I am doing mine.
Derran took the money from Emilia reluctantly.
Derran: ... Thank you.

Ch 13 - Window of opportunity 4 of 5

Emilia: Hello, I came to report that the job is completed.
Free trader receptionist: Hello, Emilia. The boss wants to speak to you ASAP.

Free trader boss: Emilia... I am troubled.
Emilia: That's new. I've never seen you troubled.
He was clearly reluctant to continue.
Free trader boss: Your client from your last job... has ... given me an offer.
Emilia: What are you even talking about?
Free trader boss: He... wants to buy you.
Emilia was clearly confused what he meant but soon she understood the context.
Emilia: Are you saying what I think you are saying.
He gave her a nod.
Emilia: That's ridiculous. How much is he willing to pay. Let's hear it for the fun of it.
Free trader boss: He isn't offering you money. He is offering you a place at Aqua and a permanent nobility.
Emilia: What is "a permanent nobility"?
Free trader boss: Ordinary nobles are not often recognized as nobles outside of their home realm. A permanent nobility is recognized by Dead cat, UC, Holy nation and even by us. A lot of money is paid to achieve such a status.
Free trader boss: We are talking about 1.000.000cat or more and money alone can't achieve this. Political connections and all the crap.
Emilia: ......
Free trader boss: You will become a noble if you accept the deal and as a noble you will be able to enter politics, be able to have an estate and so on.
Emilia: You sound as if I should take the deal.
Free trader boss: I am not sure whether he wants you as a mistress or a personal guard, but commoners like us do not get a chance to enter nobility like this. It is extremely rare. This is a chance of life time. But again he wants to buy you. You should feel offended.
Emilia: I am.
Free trader boss: I don't blame you for that but this is a chance of life time. Nobody will get a chance like this.
Emilia: ..... A window of opportunity, huh...
Free trader boss: Precisely
Emilia: Give me time to think.
Free trader boss: Yes, do think it over.

Liz: What?! Ridiculous!
Zill: Hmmm
Liz: What does that "hmm" even mean, Zill?! There is nothing to even consider!
Zill: Calm down, woman. Yes, it's offending to get such an offer like that, but this is a rare opportunity. In fact, I've never heard of anyone getting such an opportunity.
Liz: Opportunity my ass!
Emilia: I am thinking of taking it.
Liz: What?! You can't be serious! You are only 18! You shouldn't be throwing your life away like that! How old is the guy anyway?
Zill: Hmm...
Liz: Come on, Zill. Back me up here!
Zill: As far as I know, he should be close to 60. Regardless, if I were her, I would take it as well.
Liz: Bullshit!

Zill: A chance to enter a permanent nobility... And she is only 18. What's even more tempting is that William III has no biological son. If you can bear his son, you will climb even higher.
Zill: You could become a high noble. Liz, if you get a chance like that, would you really turn it down?
Liz: I would! ..... I would...
Emilia: I am taking it.
Liz: Emilia!
Emilia: This is a window of opportunity. A chance of lifetime.
Liz: ......
Zill: I assume that means the band is over.
Emilia: Yes...

Emilia: Everyone, I am disbanding the band.
Set: What?! What's happening???
Emilia: It's me. I have to leave.
Asven: I see... Thanks for everything so far, boss.
Set: .... I guess I will retire. I am 43 and am getting tired of being a merc. I saved enough to buy me a house and so on.
Zill: Mato, you are joining me yes?
Mato: Of course, boss. My boss has always been you, sir.
Liz: ......

Zill: Liz, if you don't mind, come with me. I could use another escort.
Liz: I guess... I don't have enough money to retire.
Emilia: Liz, you will be in good hands.
Liz: Hah, you talk like my mom.

Liz: But... Yes, Zill is a good merchant and I am sure I will earn money.
Zill: Emilia, do you mind if I take the house?
Emilia: It's yours. Sell it if you must.
Zill: Thanks.
Emilia: Thanks everyone. It's been fun.
Set: Yeah, it's been alright.

Emilia: I will take the deal.
Free trader boss: I am glad and sad at the same time. I've never experienced such feelings before.
Emilia: Thanks for caring about me.
Free trader boss: I will be honest with you. I was thinking of you as the next leader of Free traders.
Emilia: ......
Free trader boss: You are smart and is a good leader. I really did see you as the next leader to lead Free traders to a new height.
Emilia: Thanks.
Free trader boss: You are no longer a merc anymore but do know that you are welcome here anytime.
Free trader boss: May the lucky cat smile on you even though it has already smiled on you before.

Ch 13 - Window of opportunity 5 of 5

William III: Welcome back to Aqua, Emilia.
Emilia: ......
William III: I am sure you were offended by the offer. Alas, an old man like myself has been too used to such ... methods.
Emilia: Am I to be your bitch?
Soto: ......
William III: If that is what you want to become, I see why not, but the moment I saw you, I sensed something greater from you.
William III: Sign this letter.
He placed a leather parchment on the counter.
William III: This is to confirm your noble status. Once you sign it and I send it over to the holy nation, you will become an official noble.
Emilia signed the letter.
William III: Good.
Emilia: How much did it cost to "buy" me?
William III: Well, it looks like I need someone to teach your manner of speech first but I will answer your questions. It has cost me over 1.700.000cat.
Soto: Holy sh... My apologies, m'lord.
William III: Haha, no need to apologize. It is a big amount indeed.
Marisa: Welcome, Emilia.
William III: This is Marisa, my only biological child.
Marisa: My mother is his 3rd wife.
William III: Indeed... I've tried many women in my life to conceive a son... Alas, the lucky cat hasn't smiled on me.
Emilia: ... Just how many wives do you have?
Marisa: 4 wives, 2 mistresses. You'd be his 3rd mistress if you want. How old are you?
Emilia: I am 18.
Marisa: I am 13. We could be friends!
William III: That is a good idea, Marisa.

William III: Soto, I've called you here to apologize.
Soto: Sir?
William III: I've promised that you will become Aqua chief guard soon, but you will have to wait longer.
Soto: Sir...
William III: I realize you've recently married a woman and thus I am raising your pay to that of a chief guard. Your position, however, will be a chief guard assistant.
William III: Emilia here will be the chief guard for the time being. I apologize. You will assist her.
Soto: .... Will I become a chief guard some day?
William III: You will. You have my word.
Soto: That is good enough for me, sir. I thank you for informing me kindly and I am grateful for the pay increase.

William III: Emilia, Aqua is still being built and I do not have an estate for you yet. It will soon be built however.
Marisa: Dad doesn't even have his own palace yet.
William III: [Smile] Indeed. Fraki has been busy. For now, you will be in charge of Aqua guards. They saw you fight bravely against bandits before, so I don't think they will disobey you blatantly.
Marisa: In fact, few guards admired you.
William III: Ahem, Emilia, where is the armor I've gifted you?
Emilia: It's in my bag.
William III: Wear it. Get used to the weight. You will wear equally heavy holy crest plate soon.
Emilia: I see.
William III: And I would personally like to see your hair wave out open.
Emilia: ... Fine.
William III: Both of you are dismissed for today.

Kyrria: Emilia?! Why are you here?!
Emilia: Hello.
Emilia explained what happened.
Kyrria: Oh wow. It looks like you are still my boss, hehe.
Emilia: Hah... I guess, hehe. I am sorry that your husband couldn't become a chief guard right away.
Kyrria: Oh, that's fine. He's getting a pay increase, right? That's all I want.
Emilia: Yes, I guess...
Kyrria: Oh, don't feel too bad. I don't really mind. The pay increase is all I want.
Emilia: It looks like you are doing well here.

Kyrria: Yep, I have no complaints. We've got our own house. Soto tells me that we could afford a bigger house in few years.
Kyrria: And the sex has been good. Well, it had to be since he hadn't touched a woman for years.
Emilia: Heh.
Kyrria: It's been peaceful as well. Few bandits attacked but they were small in number and were easily repelled.
Emilia: Sounds good.
Kyrria: And now with you in charge, I bet Aqua can take on much bigger bandit groups.

So, Emilia's new chapter in her life begins...

Ch 14 - Life at Aqua

William III: Fraki, how is the construction of the palace going?
Fraki: M'lord, the construction has just begun after we managed to find a suitable spot.
William III: So, it has only just begun.
Fraki: My deepest apologies. There has been a shortage of building materials after we exhausted what we brought initially. All building materials were used to build the residential district. Whatever we are producing in Aqua is currently supplied to the palace construction.
William III: I see. Keep up the good work.

William IV: Slash harder! Harder!
Marisa: I am trying!
William IV: Try harder!
Marisa: You are killing me!

Fraki: Once the palace is done, we will quickly move onto building the rest of noble district.
William III: Very well. Emilia.
Emilia: Yes?
William III: Pay a visit to Frako, Fraki's younger brother. He is in charge of weapons. Equip yourselves.
EMilia: Understood.
William III: Both of you are dismissed.

Frako: That's a rusty wakizahi you've got there, lady.
Emilia: Yes, it could need some sharpening.
Frako: Personally, I'd replace it entirely. I can produce you something much better in quality.
Emilia: No, I'd rather not. Please just sharpen it for now.
Frako: ... As you wish.
Soto: How is the order coming along?
Frako: The order? You mean 3 horse choppers, 1 heavy cleaver, and 2 ringed sabres...
Soto: Yes, that one. Weapons we have aren't really good quality.
Frako: It's coming along. I actually have the cleaver ready.
Soto: Oh, good. That's my weapon. I will take it right now if you don't mind.
Frako: Sure thing.

Soto: Well, it is shaping up.
Emilia: Do you need a hand? Why are you working alone?
Fraki: I am going to finish the palace alone. I will work on every small detail and insure that this palace becomes the finest one in the Holy nation.
Emilia: I see. Good luck to you.
Fraki: Thank you, m'lady.

William IV: Patrol the vicinity.
Emilia: Pardon?
William IV: You and the guards have been doing nothing but get fatter lately. I am giving you a work. Patrol the area and get rid of any bandits you come across.
Emilia: As you wish.
William IV: Hmmph, get moving!

Soto: It's understandable that William IV doesn't like you, your ladyship.
Emilia: I know.
Soto: He's an adopted son after all. If William III happens to get a real son, he will be kicked out.
Emilia: ... Let's get to the topic.
Emilia: We will be patrolling the area today. Consider it as a field training session.
Everyone: Yes, ma'am!

Soto: Bandits ahead!
Emilia: Charge!

Soto: [Pant] [Pant]
Emilia: Soto, get over here!
Soto: This new weapon... is so damn heavy!
Emilia: Heavy cleavers are heavy!

Soto: Yes but ... it's a lot heavier than what I used to have!
Emilia: Get used to it fast... or it's your life!
Soto: I hear you! I hear you!
Emilia: How is everyone?
Gagi: We are doing okay.
Double: There aren't too hard.

Bark: Ouch... That hurt...
Emilia: Bandage up everyone.
Everyone: .....
Emilia: What's with the silence?
Soto: We... don't have bandages.
Emilia: What did you just say?
Gagi: We never had any bandages. The Fraki brothers were the ones who healed us back at Aqua.
Emilia: You must be joking. You should have brought bandages!
Soto: Our apologies... This is actually our first field battle.
Emilia: Oh my lord...
Emilia: Alright, I have some bandages. I will patch you up quickly.
Emilia: We are heading back home afterwards. Pick yourselves bandages next time!
Everyone: Yes, ma'am.

Emilia: It looks lik we have a company. Forward!
Soto: Are, are you sure? We are not in the best condition...
Emilia: Quit being a wuss and charge!
Soto: Y, yes, ma'am!

Soto: Urgghhh, it hurts.
Emilia: How is everyone?
Gagi: I am barely standing. My God, this armor is so fucking heavy.
Double: Yeah. It's hard to move in these.
Emilia: Get used to it. It's the uniform after all.
Bark: Yes...
Emilia: Alright, let's go home.

Emilia: Good work. No one was seriously injured and no one died. Go home and rest up.
Emilia: And be sure to bring bandages next time!
Everyone: Yes, ma'am!

Ch 15 - Marisa

Soto: We are under attack!
Emilia: Blow the horn! Alert the others!
Soto: Yes ma'am!

Marisa: Wow! That didn't take long.
Soto: M'lady! You shouldn't be here. It's too dangerous!
Marisa: I see no bandits standing. Why is it dangerous?
Soto: Errrr, it's... it's just dangerous!
Marisa: It's not!
Soto: Please!

Emilia: I will escort her inside.
Soto: Yes, please... If she gets hurt, we will be losing our heads.
Marisa: Fine. Emilia, can you teach me swordsmanship?
Emilia: Wasn't your step brother teaching you?
Marisa: He was but I don't think he knows what he is doing.
Emilia: Oh?
Marisa attempts to mimic William IV's voice.
Marisa: He keeps telling me "Slash harder!" "Try harder!" He tells me I am not ready until I cut a training dummy in half.
Emilia: I see. Let's go to the training dummies and see how you do.
Marisa: Yay!

Marisa: How am I doing?
Emilia: May I ask why you chose a katana?
Marisa: It's the only thing I could lift. I found it in an old storage room.
Emilia: I see. So, you don't have a strong attachment to it?
Marisa: Do you want me to change my weapon?
Emilia: You are only 13. You just don't have the raw strength to use a proper sword. I suggest a ninja blade. Frako produced few.
Marisa: Okie! I am picking one up right now!

Marisa: It's easier to swing.
Emilia: It should. It weights practically nothing. It's a stabbing weapon however.
Marisa: You have a light weapon, too. Wakizashi, isn't it?
Emilia: Yes.
Marisa: It looks very old. Why don't you get a new one?
Emilia: It bears many memories for me. I cannot abandon it. At least, not now...
Marisa: I see...
After a moment of awkward silence, Marisa spoke.
Marisa: You know, you are different.
Emilia: How so?
Marisa: All women dad brought in were happy to be brought in. Even my mom was happy to get married to dad. She was a noblewoman from a poor clan, you see.
Emilia: I see.
Marisa: You gave me a different impression when I saw you for the first time. You were clearly displeased being brought in.
Emilia: .....
Marisa: Why did you really come here?
Emilia: Were all women your dad brought in nobles?
Marisa: Yep.
Emilia: I am or was a commoner.
Marisa: Oh..., that changes everything. It's very rare for a commoner to be a noble.

Marisa: More than just money, I see.
Emilia: You are trying to slash too hard. Loosen up. Katana is not a brute weapon. It's a weapon of precision. Don't try to cut your enemies in half. Aim for their limbs and other vital area through gaps of armor plates.
Marisa: I see!
Marisa: I think I am getting a hang of this!
Marisa: You know, dad has no biological son.
Emilia: So I've heard.
Marisa: Dad tried really hard to get a son but all he has is me. I wish I were a boy.
Emilia: I guess you can't inherit his titles?
Marisa: No, the succession law is agnatic seniority. So, when dad passes away, he would lose all titles if he didn't have a son. To avoid that, he adopted a son into his family from a distant relative. In this case, when dad passes away, my step brother would get all of his titles.
Emilia: How about you?
Marisa: I think my step brother and dad made a deal. My step brother would look after me for life.
Emilia: That isn't a bad idea. Better than losing all of his titles.
Marisa: Yeah, except I don't really trust my step brother.
Emilia: ......

Marisa: Another idea is to have me married matrilineally but I am only 13 and dad is 58. I don't think he wants to risk going that way.
Emilia: I see.
Marisa: So, you are a commoner, I mean, you were. How was your life as a commoner? Exciting adventures?
Recalling her past, Emilia made a faint frown.
Emilia: It wasn't exciting. Let's just put it that way.
Marisa: I see... dad told me lives of commoners were harsh. I guess that's true.
Emilia was going to say that "harsh" was an understatement but she chose not to speak.
Marisa: Your silence speaks volumes, Emilia. I guess it was more than harsh.
Emilia: Your swing looks better. It sounds better, too.
Marisa: Yeah!
Emilia: If you get much better, I will take you out on a patrol along with the guards.
Marisa: Wow, really? I will try hard to get better!

Soto: We are under attack!
Emilia: Blow the horn! Alert the others!

Ch 16 - Life at Aqua continued

Soto: Your ladyship.
Emilia: Yes?
Soto: I am here to report a minor attack on the residence district. The attack is already over.
Emilia: I see. I will be there.

Gagi: M'lady, it was three sand ninjas. We've successfully defeated them.
Emilia: How did they sneak in this far without any of you noticing?
Gagi: Uh...
Emilia: Soto, tell me.
Soto: Uh..., I don't think any of us was at the gate...
Emilia: Please tell me that this is a bad joke. Someone, at least one person, should always be at the gate.
Gagi: Ma'am, it's boring to stand there for hours. There is nothing to do but stare at the sky.
Emilia: That is not an excuse.
Gagi: If there were some traffics to the city at least, we'd have some people to look at and -
Soto: That's enough, Gagi.
Emilia: You are being paid to guard this town. Do the job. I want at least one of you to keep watch at gate. Rotate often if you must.
Soto: Understood.
Emilia: I will be at the pub.
Few hours later...

Soto: Your ladyship.
Emilia: ... What now?
Soto: Fraki wants to see you. It's about your manor.
Emilia: On my way.

Fraki: M'lady, your manor has been completed and funitured.
Emilia: It looks nice.
Fraki: Mind you, m'lady, that I've yet to complete the fenses but the house itself and done and you may now stay here.
Emilia: I assume the palace is done then since you had time to work on my manor.
Fraki: Somewhat, ma'am. Interiors are to be done at a later date due to its complexity.
Emilia: I see. Shouldn't William IV have gotten his manor before I did?
Fraki: He should have except that Sir William III has personally ordered me to finish yours first.
Marisa: It looks nice. I think I prefer less spacious places, feels less lonely and empty.
Emilia: ......
Marisa: Do you hear something? I hear a horn.
Emilia: An alert horn! It must be an attack. Talk to you later, Fraki!

Emilia: Why are you following me? Get to the palace and seek shelter!
Marisa: I wanna fight!
Emilia: You are not ready! I told you that I'd take you to a battle but that time is not now!
Marisa: Let me fight please!
Emilia: You may not!
Marisa: Please, pretty please, please, please, please, please, pleas-
Emilia: Enough! Fine, fine! But under one condition!
Marisa: Yay!
Emilia: Attack only from behind!

Emilia: Soto! I thought the gate was guarded! How did this happen?!
Soto: It was indeed, ma'am! But we didn't see them coming through!
Emilia: What are you saying?
Marisa: Maybe a mouse hole to sneak in or something?

Emilia: So, you are telling me that no one saw a bandit group of more than 10 enter the town?
Soto: Yes, ma'am. I swear the gate was being watched.
Emilia: Then how -
Fraki: I think I can answer that.

Fraki: I was watching the fight afar and noticed the path few ran away. Follow me please.

Fraki: See this narrow path here? Just narrow enough for one person to pass if they try.
Soto: I will be damned.
Marisa: A mouse hole.
Emilia: We can just block the path, can we?
Fraki: Yes, entirely possible but, even if we block the path, the walls themselves are not tall enough. We've researched and developed a new, taller, type of a wall. We are working on mounted crossbows in addition to aid the defense.
Emilia: Are you suggesting to replace the entire walls?
Fraki: There aren't many walls to begin with anyway. It won't be hard. Aqua is built around cliffs, so we have natural walls.
Emilia: I see. If you think we should, I suppose we should.
Fraki: Thank you, your ladyship. I ask you to guard me while I build the new walls and gates.
Emilia: Understood, Soto, bring everyone.
Soto: Yes, ma'am.

Fraki: Took us only one whole night to complete.
Soto: Impressive. The walls are much taller now.
Fraki: I've moved the walls to further front, so the mouse hole is inaccessible.
Emilia: Good work. Hopefully, we will be able to respond better when we are attacked.
Fraki: I will let you know when the mounted cross bows are available.
Emilia: Fraki, build a guard house here so that few men can be stationed here permanently.
Fraki: Understood.

Soto: Your ladyship.
Emilia: Yes?
Soto: I am here to report a minor attack on the residence district. The attack is already over.

I haven't read all of these yet, but what I have is very awesome! I really want to do something like this as well, and I will be SURE to mention you as an inspiration. Very awesome!
Ch 17 - Defense enhancement

Fraki: M'lady, the guard house has been built and I've added few cages.
Emilia: I see a prisoner in one of the cages.
Gagi: Aye, we captured him alive few days ago at the gate. He was just a lone sand ninja. Do you wish to have him executed?
Emilia: No, let's leave him in there for now.
Gagi: As you wish, your ladyship.
Fraki: M'lady, I've upgraded the walls and have installed a crossbow.
Emilia: Time to test it then.

Emilia: Soto, man the crossbow. I see few bandits coming this way.
Soto: Yes, m'lady.
Emilia: Men, prepare to fight!

Soto: This crossbow thingy is pretty effective. I am impressed! I could get used to this!
After a solid performance, Emilia ordered Fraki to install few more.

Soto: M'lady, it's a fight between two bandit groups. Your orders?
Emilia: They are not bothering us yet, so leave them be.
Soto: M'lady, I must say I am starting to really like these things.
Emilia: Yes, I see they are very effective.
The fight between two bandit groups ended in a tie and few loose bandits approached the gate of Aqua.

Emilia: Aim and fire!
Soto: Aye!
However, a flaw of the bow was soon discovered when they could not aim the crossbows at those that were attacking the gate.
Soto: Your ladyship! The bandits at the gate! We can't aim there!
Emilia: A blind spot.
Fraki: Hmmm..., I didn't expect this.
Emilia: Men, to the gate. Let us repel them! Soto, stay here.

The fight was over soon and Emilia went out to inspect the area.

Emilia: The crossbows are highly effective but it has a blind spot...
Emilia: How could I overcome that...

Emilia: Fraki, I have an idea.
Fraki: Yes?
Emilia: The walls. Do they have to be lined up straight?
Fraki: I apologize but I don't understand.

Emilia: Look, the current setup exposes a blind spot for the crossbows. Those who attack the gate will be safe from the crossbows due to line of sight. That means if bandits rush toward the gate, the crossbows will be useless.
Fraki: Yes, we saw that.
Emilia: So, my solution is to have the walls arched.
Fraki: Arched...?
Emilia: Let me draw it on this sand. Like this...

Emilia: If you build the gate and the walls like this, we will get rid of the blind spot as well as being able to focus-fire at bandits.
Fraki: Oh..., I see. I see now. This is literally killing two birds with one stone. Brilliant, ma'am, brilliant, your ladyship!
Fraki: Yes..., this is like trapping bandits in one spot and rain arrows!
Emilia: Precisely. You will have to rebuild the whole walls and gate however.
Fraki: That I do not mind, m'lady. I will get to work right away!

Emilia: Can you secure your line of sight at the gate?
Gagi: Yes, ma'am. It's clear!
Emilia: Good.

Fraki: The gate and walls are done, your ladyship. I've also installed 3 crossbows; two one side and another on another side.
Emilia: Good. I'd like to test how effective it is.
Fraki: We'd have to lure some bandits.
Emilia: No..., I have an idea.

Thoke: Ma'am, no disrespect to you, but are you sure this is a good idea?
Emilia: Better than testing with a bunch of bandits, don't you think?
Thoke: But, ma'am, he is still a sand ninja. They are pretty tough bastards.
Emilia: I am fully aware.

Soto: Are you sure about this, ma'am?
Emilia: Yes, I will go out there alone and drop him off. I will fight him alone and I want you to kill him with the crossbows.
Soto: It's too risky, ma'am. We could hit you.
Emilia: I will be fine.

Emilia: Ready?!
Gagi: Yes, ma'am!
Double: Aye!
Peter: Yes!

Shortly after Emilia engaged the sand ninja, a crossbow bolt struck through the ninja's head without mercy, killing him instantly.

Emilia: Accuracy could be an issue... but still it took less than ten shots. If there are a bunch more, accuracy will be less of an issue.
Emilia: Hmmm, this is brutal. His skull is shattered into pieces. The impact must have been rough.

Soto: Are you alright, ma'am?!
Emilia: I am fine. The ninja is as dead as Dodo. Good job.
Fraki: That was highly effective, I must say. And I've never thought of building walls in such a way. For some odd reasons, I've always thought straight walls were the way.
Emilia: So did I. I just thought of making the crossbows more effective and this was my solution.
Fraki: I admire your creativity, your ladyship. I truly respect you.
Emilia: Thank you. Now, Fraki, I want you to build a new guard house here. I am sorry that you have to rebuild it again.
Fraki: No problem at all, your ladyship. Your wish is my command.

Ch 18 - Passage of time

Emilia: We will conduct a final test.
Soto: A final test? I thought we tested it enough.
Emilia: We've been testing it under a controlled environment. We will now test it under a real situation.
Soto: Should I be afraid?
Emilia: Maybe. We will lure a large group of bandits here and stand our ground while the defenses take them out.
Soto: I am afraid.

Emilia: That wasn't too hard to find these. Let's run for it.

Emilia: Where is Soto?!
Bark: I think he tumbled, ma'am!
Emilia: Tumbled?! How in the world... How is he going to be the captain if he's going to be clumsy like that?!
Bark: Thus, we have you, your ladyship.
Emilia: ......

Emilia: Just hold your ground. Defend yourself! That's all you have to do!
Bark: Aye!

Peter: Hah! Those losers are fleeing!
And...

One day...

Soto: Who goes there, halt!
Zill: I am just a humble merchant. I seek to enter Aqua.
Soto: You think we'd fall for such a rookie trick?
Zill: I beg your pardon?
Soto: Now that you bandits can't even get past the gate, you've come up with a disguise.
Soto: Aim the crossbows!

Zill: Hang on a second! We are not bandits!
Liz: Holy shit, look at these bodies. What the hell has been happening here?
Soto: Ready-!
Zill: Wait! We know someone inside! She will be able to vouch for us!
Soto: Yeah? What's the name? Spill it out quickly. I haven't got all day.
Zill: It's Emilia. Just tell her that Zill is here.
Soto: Uh..., Emilia? Who's Emilia?
Bark: Ser, it's our captain.
Soto: Oh... oh!

Soto: Your ladyship, a merchant named Zill is here and is seeking an entrance to the city.
Emilia: Zill?! Let them in. Bring them here.
Soto: Aye.

Liz: Well, Emilia. I almost shit my pants. That was scary.
Emilia: Long time no see, old friends!
Zill: Aye.
Liz: What's up with those guards? They were scary.
Zill: Yes, they were ready to fire at any moment.
Emilia: I am sorry. The town has been tackled by bandits way too often that they are on edge.
Liz: Is it that bad?
Emilia: Actually, no, no bandits has gotten past the gate for months and the residents aren't even aware that we are being attacked few times a day.
Zill: Good job, Emilia.
Emilia: I am sorry about that. Let's go to my manor. Let's talk there.
Liz: I thought this was your house.
Emilia: No, it's a guardhouse. I am usually here during day.

Liz: Fancy.
Zill: A large house for yourself. Not bad.
Emilia: I am sure you could afford one easily.
Zill: True, but I wouldn't own it personally. The last thing I want is for bandits to take a notice that I am rich. In your case, however, you have the whole town guards under your disposal.
By the way, if you don't mind asking, why do you have a medical lab here?
Emilia: I've been studying some medicines recently.
Zill: Planning to be a medic or a doctor some day?
Emilia: No, actually I am studying mechine to understand how body works so that I can be a more effective fighter.

Emilia: So, what brings you here?
Liz: We came to see you for the last time.
Emilia: For the last time...?
Zill: Yes, I am retiring. I am 65 now and have had enough. I was hoping to go on for a little longer by sponsoring the sand merc but we all know how that ended.
Emilia: I am sorry.
Zill: Not your fault at all though. I mean look at you. Look how far you've climbed.
Liz: Yep, you were a stray kid when I saw you the first time. Now, you are a noble and a captain of guards. Who woulld have thought.
Mato: Impressive indeed.
Emilia: If Zill is retiring, what is happening to Liz and Mato?

Zill: They are retiring with me. I have a sizable wealth and will still need some form of protection. Mato and Liz will continue to guard me.
Liz: Yes. It's been decided.
Emilia: I see. It's farewell then.
Zill: Indeed and why we've come this far to see you.
Liz: Don't be sad.
Emilia: Nothing to be sad about. You guys are retiring alive. That's what truly matters. The best mercs are the ones who survive until the end.
Zill & Liz: ......

Liz: So, this is it, Emilia.
Emilia: Yeah, can you tell me where you guys are retiring to?
Zill: I am afraid not. It's not that I don't trust you but my location is best kept unknown for your own as well as my sake. I have some enemies and you won't want to get involved.
Emilia: I see.

Liz: May the lucky cat smile on you, Emilia.
Mato: May the lucky cat smile on you, miss.
Zill: Farewell, kid, The lucky cat has smiled on you more than once but even so I have a feeling that the lucky cat will continue to smile on you.
Zill: Fare thee well, Emilia the blessed.

Ch 19 - The Savior 1/4

William III: Emilia, I've summoned you here today for your promotion.
Emilia: Promotion, sir?
William III: Yes, I believe it's overdue. I've heard your deeds around here. I am most impressed.
William IV: .....
William III: Even Soto here recommended you highly. I entitle you to the rank of Holy Knight.
Emilia: I refuse, ser.
William III: .... I beg your pardon?
Emilia: I refuse, ser. My promotion means Soto will be promoted to the guard captain.
William III: Indeed.
Emilia: Soto is not ready.
William III: ......, Soto, please leave for now.
Soto: ....Aye, ser.

William III: Emilia, explain.
Emilia: It's just as I said. Soto is not ready. Should he be promoted and replace me, he will get himself killed.
William III: Soto is a good man but he is ... a commoner. He is ...
Emilia: He can easily be repalced even if he gets himself killed. Is that what you wish to say?
Willian IV: That's right. He's just a damn commoner.
Emilia: Soto is married to someone I know and care. I am not letting him die easily. Thus, I refuse to be promoted until I feel he is ready.
William III: I see. Well, if you insist.
Emilia: Thank you.
Shortly later, Soto visited Emilia.

Soto: Your ladyship, how could you do this for me, ma'am?!
Emilia: I did it for you.
Soto: It was my dream promotion!
Emilia: I am afraid you are not ready yet.
Soto: You don't...!... decide my life!
Emilia: For now, I can and will. You are not ready.
Soto: Grrrr....
Emilia: I am not trying to mess with you. I am genuinely caring about you. I am not going to make Kyrria a widow so soon.
Soto: ......
Some days later, Emilia and Soto were urgently called.

Kikon: My thousands apologies, m'lord! My apologies!
William III: Marisa was lost?! Just how?! By whom?!
Kikon: We were at Shark and the lady wished to have a walk outside of the town. We were then ambushed by cannibals...!
William III: And you ran away?!
Kikon: M'lord! Someone had to survive to deliver the news. Otherwise, no one would have a clue how and where the lady was taken!
Emilia: I will attempt to rescue her right away.
William III: Yes... I... I need to lie down. Emilia..., I am counting on you.
William IV: ......

Emilia: Soto, gather everyone except Gagi and Peter.
Soto: ......
Emilia: Soto!
Soto: Yes..., ma'am.

Emilia: And, Soto, get rid of your heavy cleaver.
Soto: Pardon?
Emilia: You have a trouble handing it. It's too heavy for you. Use a saber.
Soto: I like my heavy cleaver.
Emilia: I know you do but you know what happened last time, don't you? You tumbled because it was too heavy. That cleaver will get you killed sooner or later.
Bark: Soto, I agree with our captain.
Soto: ... Fine.

Emilia: We have little time to waste and we are heading out! Gagi and Peter, lock the gate tight and I am leaving you two in charge of the whole town!
Gagi & Peter: Count on us!

Kikon: Bandits!
Emilia: Let's try to lose them!
However, they continued to chase and Emilia was forced to fight them.

Emilia: How is everyone?
Bark: Minor wounds. Nothing too serious, ma'am.
Emilia: Alright, let's proceed to the cannibal camp.

Emilia: Ready, everoyne?
Soto: We are ... just going in?
Emilia: Yes, we go in. Wipe them out and rescue Marisa.
Bark: There are quite a few at the camp.
Emilia: Focus and we will make it.

Soto: ......

Emilia: Well done. We took care of half of them.
Kikon: It was easier than I expected.
Bark: Phew.
Emilia: No time to waste! We are charging in!

Emilia: Marisa! Can you hear me?! Are you awake?!

William III: Emilia, I've summoned you here today for your promotion.
Emilia: Promotion, sir?
William III: Yes, I believe it's overdue. I've heard your deeds around here. I am most impressed.

Ch 19 - The Savior 2/4

Emilia: I've never picked a lock in my whole life...

Kikon: Oh, Gods, Oh, Gods. She's dead! She's dead!
Emilia: Calm down! She is not dead! Cannibals don't kill their captives!
Bark: True. They eat them alive.
Kikon: Oh, Gods.

Kikon: Ma'am, ambush!
Emilia: Fight back!

Emilia: Stand guard! I need to focus.
Bark: Aye, your ladyship.

Soto: ... Your ladyship.
Emilia: Yes?
Soto: I ... I apologize about before. I was reckless. I talked to Kyrria and she talked some senses into me.
Emilia: ......
Soto: And, yes, I am performing much better with this saber...
Bark: You could barely lift that cleaver thing.
Soto: Looked... cool tho.
Bark: Looking cool ain't everything. Look at our lady's weapon. It's a tiny sword and she fights better than any of us.
Soto: True...

Emilia: Finally! Marisa! Can you hear me?!
She was unconscious.
Kikon: How is she?!
Emilia: She will be fine. I see a lot of bruises all over her body however...
Kikon: Her limbs are all there?! 10 fingers and 10 toes?!
Emilia: Yes, she's fine.

Bark: Most impressive, your ladyship. You've done it again.
Kikon: Yes, I thought it was too late... I was even ready to be executed...
Emilia: I am afraid it's not over yet.
Soto: What do you mean?
Emilia: I assume other cannibals were out hunting. There were too few at the camp. We will run into them on our way home.
Bark: Are we expecting fights?
Emilia: Most likely. It might be a better idea to head over to Clownsteady and treat Emilia.
However, Emilia chose to head directly to Aqua to bring Marisa faster.

Soto: Uh oh...
Bark: I bloody hope I am hallucinating because of the heat because I see two stacks of them.
Soto: You are not hallucinating.
Bark: Fuck.
Emilia: Let's fight through!
Everyone: Aye!

Everyone was exhausted.
Soto: Your ladyship... I can't... I mean we can't really fight anymore.
Bark: We haven't eaten in two days... I am beat...
Emilia: Agreed. There is no way we will be able to make to Aqua in our conditions. Let us head to Clownsteady.
Kikon: Aye. That'd be the best.
However, things didn't go as they hoped and they were ambushed by cannibals. After being surrounded, Emilia accidently dropped Marisa.

Emilia: Damn it! Help me to get her back!
Soto & Kikon: Aye!

Emilia: I am getting her to Clownsteady on my own. Everyone, make a run for it! Don't fight. Keep running!
Bark: You will be the slowest, ma'am! You will be surrounded and caught!
Emilia: Don't worry about me! Go!
Soto: But...!
Emilia: Go!

Double: Holy... How we made it out alive is beyond me.
Thoke: That was messed up.
Bark: Phew. Don't wanna do that again.
Emilia: Alright, let's get to Mr. Floppy's and take some rest.
Emilia: ......
Emilia: Wait. I don't see Soto.
Eveyone: .....
Bark: He must be still out there. What should we do now, your ladyship?
Emilia: It pains me but Marisa is our top priority. Let me treat her and we will think about him then.
Bark: Ma'am, I am not seeing Kikon as well.
Emilia: I see we will have more fights on my path. Let me treat Marisa first.

Mr. Floppy: Emilia? Is that you?
Emilia: Yes.
Mr. Floppy: Are my eyes deceiving me? Are you with the Holy nation?
Emilia: Yes, I am.
Mr. Floppy: Must be a long story.
Emilia: Yes..., I will tell you later.
Mr. Floppy: Yes, you seem busy at the moment.

Ch 19 - The Savior 3/4

Emilia: Mr. Floppy. I am going to the pub for a drink or two. Please look after the girl.
Mr. Floppy: No problem, Emilia.

Emilia was trying to cool her throat when a man approached.
Kevin: Hail.
Emilia:......
Kevin: Hail.
Emilia: Leave me alone.
Kevin: It's rare to see a holy nation member here.
Emilia: I will be on my way soon.

Kevin: I am just a vagrant. I am not here to criticize.
Emilia: Good. Now leave me alone.
Kevin: You look destressed though. Do you require assistance?
Having lost Soto and Kikon, she felt a need to reinforce.
Emilia: Are you for hire?
Kevin: Aye.
Emilia: How good and stupid are you?
Kevin: I am fairly good with sabers and I am moderately stupid.
Emilia: Are you stupid enough to fight cannibals?
Kevin: Apparently I am stupid enough to fight them, it seems.
Emilia: You are hired.

Bark: Who is this new guy, your ladyship?
Kevin: Ladyship? Is she a noble?
Bark: Aye.
Emilia: He's a hired blade. He will be tagging along. We are moving out.
Kevin: You haven't explained why I need to fight cannibals.
Emilia: Bark, can you tell him? A simple version is enough.
Bark: Aye, we lost two member. We need to get them back.
Kevin: Simple enough.
Emilia: We will run around and see if we can spot any cannibal stacks. If the lucky cat smiles on us, we will find them carrying Soto.
Bark: Hopefully, your ladyship. Otherwise, this could get ugly.

Bark: The lucky cat smiled on us.
Emilia: So it seems. That's Soto there.
Kevin: Why did you have to fight the cannibals in the first place?
Emilia: Bark? A simple version please.
Bark: We lost a noble to them. We got her back but lost two in progress.
Kevin: Simple & clear enough.

Kevin: Allow me to show you my skills!
And Kevin charged in first only to fall the first.

Kevin: Ugh...
Emilia: Your skill at feigning death has impressed me.
Kevin: That is not the ... skill I intended to display...,regardless I am honored to have impressed you.
Thoke: what a pimp.

Soto: Your ladyship... You saved me.
Kevin: Allow me to treat you.
Emilia: You are the future guard captain after all. I wasn't going to leave you to be their food.
Soto: I thought I was a goner for sure...
Emilia: Let us go back and regroup. We still have Kikon to rescue.
Soto: Kikon was lost as well?
Bark: Aye. We had no idea we lost you, either.
Soto: I can't walk... I am too exhausted and my whole body is bruised.
Kevin: I shall carry you.
Emilia: Yes, you should. You are the healthiest one here. You took an early nap after all.
Kevin: ......

Soto: I was running but got dragged into a fight. And I was knocked out soon after.
Emilia: Well, you are safe now.
Soto: Yes..., thank you again.

Emilia: Alright, men. Rest up. I am going to check on Marisa.

Marisa: Emilia...
Emilia: You've woken up. When did you regain consciousness?
Marisa: A whole ago, I think ... Argh..., my whole body aches...
Emilia: The bruises will heal in due time.
Marisa: I assume you saved me.
Emilia: It was your father's order.
Marisa: That doesn't change the fact that you were the one who saved me.
Emilia: Can you tell me what happened?
Marisa: Yes..., let's talk outside.
Emilia: You should stay on the bed.
Marisa: No, I want to walk and we need to talk in private.

Marisa: It was Kikon.
Emilia: What?
Marisa: Kikon lured me into a group of cannibals near Shark.
Emilia: .......
Marisa: I was on my usual shopping run at Shark. Kikon claimed that he had a merchant coming with exquisite goods and lured me into a group of cannibals outside of Shark.
Emilia: Does he hold a grudge against you?
Marisa: I don't think so.
Emilia: ......
Marisa: ......
Emilia: Don't tell me... William IV?
Marisa: ...... I told you I don't trust my step brother, didn't I?
Emilia: Why would he want you dead? He will get all the titles regardless.
Marisa: Yes, but as long as I live, I sort of retain claims on the titles. And if I happen to have sons in the future, my claims will pass onto my sons.
Emilia: Wouldn't the claims be illegitimate unless you marry matrilineally?
Marisa: Even if I don't marry matrilineally, my sons will have claims. Illegitimate they will be but claims nonetheless. Enough to cause direct conflicts because my step brother's claim on the titles will be weak since he isn't a biological son.
Emilia: I see now. What do you intend to do?
Marisa: Nothing. There is nothing I can do. I won't even tell dad.
Emilia: Why?
Marisa: Telling dad won't solve anything. He can't get another adopted son at this point. If they break up, all titles will be lost. If my step brother gets the titles, I will at least have claims.
Emilia: I see...

Emilia: Is everyone feeling well?
Soto: Yes, your ladyship. We have slept well.
Emilia: We are now heading home.
Soto: M'lady? How about Kikon?
Emilia: I am afraid we cannot waste any more time. We need to get Marisa back home. Only after then, we will have a chance to rescue Kikon.
Soto: But...
Emilia: We don't even know his location. It will take a long time to search for him. We can't keep wasting time like that with Marisa here.
Bark: I see your point, your ladyship. It was pure luck that we found you so easily, Soto.
Soto: I see...

Emilia: We are half way to Shark. How are you feeling, Marisa?
Marisa: I feel okay. My whole body aches but it could be a lot worse.
Emilia: True. Let's keep going.

Emilia: We can see Shark from here. Almost there.
Marisa: ...... Wow.
Emilia: Marisa?
Marisa: Wow... The night sky... I've never thought... So pretty...

Marisa: The stars... They look like a bunch of candies.
Emilia: Candies?
Marisa: Yep.
Emilia: I've never had candies in my whole life.
Marisa: You haven't?
Emilia: I was a commoner, remember?
Kevin: O_o How can a commoner become a noble?
Soto: A long story, pimp.
Kevin: Ser, my name is not pimp.
Soto: Whatever.

Ch 19 - The Savior 4/4

Gagi: Uh oh.
Peter: Bandits!

Gagi: Let's fire!
Peter: We have a little too many down there!
Kyrria: I am here to assist!
Gagi: Who are you?
Peter: I recognize her. It's Soto's wife!
Kyrria: The gate... It's going!

Kyrria: Guys, help? I can't fight these alone!
Gagi: Damn it! They entered the blind spot. Let's get down and assist her!
Peter: Yeah!

Gagi: Phew, we defeated them.
Peter: We are lucky that they were just hungry bandits.
Fraki: I see the gate has been bursted.
Gagi: Yes, it needs to be fixed asap.
Fraki: Easier to be said than done but I will work on it right away.
Peter: Why did you come down here, miss?
Kyrria: I know how to fight a little and I know you guys would need help.
Gagi: We may have made it without you. If anything happened to you, we wouldn't be able to face Soto.
Kyrria: I got through fine though, didn't I?

William IV: Did you repel the bandits?!
Gagi: A, aye, ser!
William IV: Don't just stand there like fools! Put these bandits into cages!
Peter: We have cages? I know we have one in front of the guard house but...
Fraki: The lord ordered me to build a small prison. It's over there.
William IV: And you woman! Get back to where you belong!

Gagi: Jackass.
Peter: Shhhh.

Gagi: Poor S.o.Bs. You guys should have just died in the battle.

Gagi: Your ladyship! You've done it!
Peter: Woohoo, so glad to see you guys back!
Kyrria: Soto, welcome back!
Kevin: So, this is Aqua? I've heard of this new town.
Emilia: Anything to report? I suppose Kyrria isn't here for fun.
Gagi: Nothing major, ma'am. We had an attack which we duly repelled.
Emilia: Good job, and thanks, Kyrria. I suppose you helped them out.
Kyrria: Yep, hehe.

William III: Marisa!!! Marisa!!! By Gods, you are fine!
Marisa: Daddy!

Marisa: I am fine.
Emilia: She is hurt but her wounds aren't major.
William III: My God! You are bruised all over!
Marisa: I am fine really. I mean it could have gone a lot worse.
William III: Indeed, indeed! I thank you Emilia! Let's go inside, Marisa. I will have my doctor to have a look at you.

Bark: Happy ending.
Soto: For all of us.
Emilia: Alright, everyone, back to your posts.
Kevin: Where is my post?
Emilia: You are staying with me for the time being.
Kevin: More fight to be had?
Emilia: I don't think so. We will see.
Next morning, Emilia was summoned.

William III: Emilia, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Emilia: I simply followed your order, ser.
William III: No, for some reason, I resigned to a possibility that Marisa was lost. I may have given you an order to carry out but in reality I wasn't being serious.
Emilia: ......
William III: I am going to promote you and I won't take no for an answer. I am going to promote you to the rank of Holy Knight Commander.
Marisa: Holy Knight Commander is the highest rank my father can give you without involving the emperor.
William III: Indeed. Anything higher than that, the emperor has to know and approve.
Emilia: Ser-
William III: I will not take no for the answer. You are now a holy knight commander.
Emilia: ...... What does that rank gives me?
William III: You may now have your own guards or holy knight squires. In addition, as a HKC, you may now go on a pilgrimage. Furthermore, you are no longer bound here. You may travel at will.
Marisa, bring Soto in and you may rest.
Marisa: Yes, father.

William III: Soto, I now promote you to the guard captain.
Soto: I thank you, m'lord!
William III: Emilia is now a HKC.
Soto: Holy Knight Commander? Holy shi-, no, I mean, congratulations, your ladyship. You deserve it.
Emilia: Thanks.

Soto: Congratulations, your ladyship.
Kevin: What happened?
Soto: She is now a HKC.
Kevin: HKC?
Soto: Holy Knight Commander. We, commoners, can't even be one.
Emilia: Soto, you are now the guard captain. While I don't think you are fully ready yet, you are more ready than before.
Soto: All thanks to you.
Emilia: I want you to promote Bark to be your assistant. He's fairly good.
Soto: Understood.
Emilia: Kevin, still up for some work?
Kevin: What do you have in your mind?
Emilia: I want you to work for me as my bodyguard.
Kevin: I was stupid enough to have worked with you to fight cannibals. I don't see why not.
And some time passed...

Gagi: Uh oh.

Ch Extra 1 - Introducing Aqua
This is not an ordinary chapter. This is a sort of like behind scene kind of bit where I'd like to explain Aqua.
Aqua has been used as backdrop for a long time but I've yet to show you how the town looks like so far. So, that is what I am going to do in this extra chapter.
Aqua is currently at 90% completion.
Please take a moment and look at Aqua from front and sides.

Keen eyes may have noticed that Aqua has few small shacks scattered around. Those small shacks house generators.

Frako works here at the factory. All weapons and armors for Aqua guards come from this place.

This hill has a small path where bandits could climb and invade Aqua. This path featured in one of Window of opportunity chapters. Since then, this path has been blocked.

A small shack that used to house a generator was modified to be a small prison. The order was given by William IV. Since then those who were unfortunate to either die or flee were captured and imprisoned in there. William IV is known to enjoy torturing them.

A pub in the residential district. This is where the people (When I say "people", the commoners including guards.) relax after work or duty.

Below is the interior of the storage house.

Lastly, just two random images of the pub and the storage house.
