I'm sure Chris has said that there WILL, REPEAT WILL BE Robotic Replacements for severed limbs. So the robotics has got to a partially advanced stage, like the Full Metal Alchemist biotic replacements.

But again, the provincial idea for races I shall put forward and expand upon-

Race 1-From Province A- Province A has a history of excellent sword masters, so the character starts with better Stats when using a Katana
Race 2-From Province B- Province B is a central Trading hub, so the character starts with better haggling skills and gains 5% more from selling items and purchases items at a 5% discount
Race 3-From Province C- Province C is very treacherous and harsh and so the character starts with better dexterity and endurance.

Catch my drift?

Those are good ideas, but the races should not only have advantages but disadvantages.

So for race 1, since they are good with katanas, should have a disadvantage, so since they trained so much with a katana and not very much with others they should have penalty on training with any other weapon.

For race 2, since they haggle so much they would probably not be liked that much, so they have a better chance of getting into fights in towns.

For race 3, since they were raised in a rural environment, would probably not be good at trading or medicine, things like that.

Being able to haggle successfully is kinda connected to your ability to being liked. Not that the shopkeeper have to love you, but it is practically impossible if he dislike you assuming that your are not shipping ambrosia or something

I would rather make it so that due to their metropolitan lifestyle they do not have the martial ethos that other countries embraces, thus making them generally badder at fighting. We could even make them totally incompetent with the excuse that they use mercenaries to fight all their wars, kinda like the italian city states in the 15th and 16th century. If anyone is interested on a little more knowledge of italian armies in that age then I would be happy to provide.

Btw, trailing a bit off track here, but anybody interested in the era in question should really read Machiavelli´s "The prince" as it gives ample insight in the works of an italian city state at the time and some general information of the life of Cesare Borgia.

If more varied races were added to the game, there's gonna need to be a backstory to this. If we know the history of the game world it will be a lot more easier picking races.

Since this is the desert based on realism, there could be different ethnic groups. Have the big, red-skinned barbarian fellows to the north living off the plains, being hunter-gatherers. Have shorter, broad shouldered people living in the mountains (dwarves :P, but not that short). And so on. They all have physical adaptations to the region they originate from.

Soooo, if the history of the game world spans over thousands of years. There could be cold-blooded humans that evolved simple traits to survive in the desert. Evolving one specific trait just over a few thousand years doesn't seem very realistic but there's my thoughts.

When Chris talks about different races, my mind didn't switch to Elf like qualities and Dwarf like qualities.
It went to things like how Earth has different races.
Asian, Caucasian, etc.

To this vein, you could have standard humans (European?), lithe/agile humans (think of Kung Fu agility), burly barbarians (i.e. Norse Vikings or Saxons ..?), Pygmie tribes (cannibles, head hunters), etc.
There is plenty of different races just from our Earth and from our history.
Just have to adapt them to suit this game world.

There are plenty of RPG out there where I can be a Dwarf or an Elf or an Orc, I don't want Kenshi to have them, and I certainly don't want it to lose it's original edge and become another cookie cutter RPG.

In this forum i would like discuss ideas for the game about these topics. All ideas are welcome and if they are good enough i would like to see them included in the game.

What i would first like to discuss is the races that should be in the game. My ideas for races are elves, since you cant have an rpg without elves, dwarves, for the same reason, and orcs, since you always need a bad guy. Please submit your own ideas for races, or for building designs and factions.

I would also like to have goblins, either in addition to orcs or instead of orcs. for 2 reasons. 1 goblins are always portrait as tribal creatures in fantasy games, it would be cool to go to war with goblin tribes, or take over their cave, or camp or something. and 2, because orcs are over used. I'd rather slaughter short little green dudes with crude swords :)

Original game world. There are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. No magic.
I feel like the standard RPG races are obviously as cliche as you can get and as such i think its HIGHLY unlikely there will be any orks or goblins or even elves.

When i think races in this environment i think demographics, Skin color, Cultures, Religions you know stuff like that.
For instance in the desert it would make sense of people to be either tan or brown, they would likely have tribal cultures with all towns springing up around wells.
On the other hand a Forrest people would likely be lighter, either tan or very light skin brown or possibly white if the Forrest is in a colder place. They would have a more spread out culture and would likely have small homes that are placed further out from the town and their towns would mostly be for trading and selling goods acquired from hunting. There is a ton of possibilities to the different cultures and races that can be added.

if you look at the description of some weapons, one manufacturer is called "Edge walkers".
I thought that was a race chris had in mind... something like a race that is proficient in making stuff with metal and stone (think dwarves) but maybe not good fighters

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Yeah i mean the races can obviously take an example from mythical races its just that mythical races don't exactly fit in here. The Forrest Trolls of ChinStrap or the Desert Elves of Fischer!!
See what i mean? now if you assign the standard attributes of an elf to a race, like Desert people are quick and nimble, they may not be able to take many hits but they are very hardy survivalists and require less water then other races. "Quick and Nimble" being taken from elves. Now i also support the idea of people adding mythicals in mods as its obviously wanted by some people in the community.

What if the races were not based from what you look like but where you came from? Instead of it being what country (If there are any countries) you came from it would be what city you came from. So instead of "This so and so came from the north, and that's why he is so good at harpoon guns and has a higher endurance.", it would be "This so and so came from the city of Novagrand, a city in the north close to the seas where most people hunt whales for a living, and are have a high resistance to the cold.",Things like that.

(If you want to learn more about why independent cites would be good for this game, look up the history Greece, Rome, an 15th century Italy.)

The races will be mostly subtler things like you say, mostly moderate variations on humans. There may be one or 2 more alien types, we will see. There will be a robot race.

Anyone else who suggests the game should have goblins or elves will be shot out of a cannon.

I'd just like to point out that those mercenaries completely destroyed italy over multiple generations. Italy's use of mercenaries during the period this was popular became an example for all city states to avoid.

If anything, we should look towards the greek city states in their days of glory, now THERE is a martial ethos! 300 may be a bunch of bullshit, but the *actual* greek history is pretty fucking hardcore on its own.

Italy in its condottiery love phase was probably the finest example of greed run amok and destroying everything around it.

Mercs are always a bad idea unless there is a good chance that they will fail, or only a small number will return. Because then you can bump 'em off without paying the buggers.

I thought you guys were trolling but.....you seriously want dwarves and orcs (and goblins)? Playing this game and asking for that is like saying "tonight we will eat vegetarian food, but I want a side order of steak". It totally (I mean TOTALLY) goes against the feel of the game. Nothing about this game has a Tolkien-esque feel about it. Its about isolation, feeling alone against the world and survival (and stabbing people a lot).
