Well, there's FullMetal Alchemist...

Yes, the anime is based around the concept of alchemy, equivilant exchange, etc.,etc.

But the automail limb replacements are not, as far as I know, alchemy based. Instead, I think the concept behind them is that the nerves which were connected to the now severed limb are linked to sensors, which take the electrical signals from the brain, and pass it onto the prosthetic.

I'd say it's possible, but a very long, and very difficult procedure, linking each of the individual nerves, and an excruciating experience for the patient.

As such, if robotic limb replacements were to be implemented into Kenshi, I think this would be the most plausible way to do it. No magic, just science.

I assume this has already been suggested though.

Just weighing in that I agree cybernetic limbs would be immersion breaking and not good. However, replacement limbs of some kind would be fine - even if it's just a 2 by 4 shoved into your arm stump with a katana tied to it.

If chris said no to the musket, then how are we going to get robotic limps?

if we can have robotic limps that means that we could have beam guns, bazookas etc... That would break the whole game theme, Maybe a wooden leg? like pirates? that would be even better dude.

Oooh, my biggest irk is the "breaks immersion/not in the theme" thing. I mean, as the person above me said, Samurai Jack. The Scotsman has a machine gun for a leg and still primarily uses his Claymore.

Also, look in the item trader shop. There are robotic parts. We have automated mines and wind generators next to the wheat farm.

And computers. We have computers, or VERY computer-like machines.

The top tier research bench right now has a computer for certain. Not to mention you have to think how much effort does it take to process generic stone into functional, stable, "never gives out" quality building materials.

Was it just me that thought within the first hour of gameplay "There must be other really cool, nifty things that just.. happen", not magic or special powers, but if its something unexplainable, yet enjoyable, when looking at the Stone Processor??

You all have about zero imagination.. Not everything has to develop the way our world did. Maybe it's like Trigun (a good anime, go watch it) SPOILER IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE SHOW

Maybe like in Trigun the humans have left Earth because it was in a horrible and now un-habitable conditions and we had to find a new place to live. Maybe something went horrible wrong in landing (like sabotage) and now all the human race has is bits and pieces of tech, left from when we were able to travel through space. Maybe humans know how to make prosthetic limbs but not a gun, no matter how simple it sounds it's a very very different concept entirely.

What I wonder is...how can someone break the theme of their own game? He's the one that decides what the theme IS!...lol

Agreed...I like the notion of robotic prosthetics...they just need to be balanced properly....would be nifty if they were upgradable...just make them cost fuel or oil or something to maintain so that the idea of replacing everyones limbs means fueling it all

well the explanation for having no guns can be rather simple....nothing to make propellant with....
you need to have a very effective fast expanding explosive to have a decent gun but you arent all that limited when it comes to robotics where you can simply use batteries that are somewhat larger and heavier or some kind of fuel cells
to propel a bullet you need something with very large power/size ratio that might not be achievable with stuff we have in the Kenshi world.....problem solved

Or it's a different dimension with SOME different laws... and no, this will NOT be a justification for skyrim dragons.

But your explanation makes alot more sense.

As far as fuel goes for the generators?

One word...

Rum.

Probably better putting it into the generators than into your gullet...that stuff will make you go blind...

First, I want to apologize if this has already been said.

Now, onto the topic ; prosthetic limbs, with varying degrees of realism, have existed since Ancient Egypt at least (2750-2625 B.C.). Sure, you can do like pirates did and tape a hook to your wrist, or you could invest a semi-functional hand with joints.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/prosthetic-limb1.htm
http://pics.myarmoury.com/hand01.jpg - A 1580 prosthetic hand
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosthesis#History Wikipedia, of course.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... -hand1.jpg Götz von Berlichingen's 16th century hand.

So you see, prostheses are not a stretch. Even more so if we consider the time in which Kenshi is happening - either it's an alien world, a different dimension, or it's in the future. All three settings allow for the development of prostheses.

Only the Egyptian prosthetic hand, wikipedia and "how it works" links haven't been mentioned, whilst the German hand belongs to a mercenary, right? Well, an user has already posted the story about the guy.

I think robotic limbs are a really good idea. Kenshi takes place in a post-apocalyptic asiatic-cultured world.
We can assume that people are keeping the samouraï's spirit, while still taking old saber and bladed weapon (samouraï even hated the bow, considering it as a non-noble weapon in medieval japan).

We can also assume that in this history time-line, people abandonned the creation of gun-powdered weapons to focus on limbs regeneration medicine, and as WE got high-tech weapons and still no FONCTIONNAL robotic limbs, they do, but still have low manufactured weapons.

See ? No need to take laser beam guns and stuff (I don't ever want a gun or laser gun in Kenshi >.<), the magic of a post-apo sci-fi game is that almost anything can be coherent and plausible, as far as you write the story correctly.

I would want to see some other cultures tho, like there is asian culture atm, but we could see some medieval european (I mean when Britania was at war with the roman empire) or even native indian culture, old romanian spawning on the huge map :)

Ok to start, Kenshi is not defined at the moment, there is nowhere saying is a post-apocalyptic situation, or even asian themed, the name is japanese and the katana is "most popular" weapon at the moment, but to say asian theme is too strong, i do agree tho with the "robotic limbs", as i seen multiple places and is somethign i guess lot people at the moment need to realise, Kenshi can almost have his unique set, who say just because there is robotic component or certain advanced elements in technology they must have advanced ranged gund as well? They could rather focus on certain parts of research and ignore others, due to lack of resources, or others, they could simply be simpletons on the ways of battle and feel fine and no necessity of picking more weapons than the current, but due to this they had the need of replace lost limbs to be able to wield properly a sword or a bow exemple.

So far I've found 3 people who haven't jumped immediately to the conclusion that it's post-apocalyptic, the community is starting to make me proud, one member at a time.

Its an easy conclusion to jump to with the whole fallout 1/2 style for bartering. Combined with the "write your own story" storyline its the easiest conclusion to jump to. I do like the crashed colony ship/ marooned idea. Borderlands was classified as post apocalyptic, despite the fact that they are just a lawless colony.

Back to the original topic: prosthetic limbs. I like the cyber limbs idea. I think it can add some awesome moments to fights ie: a swords man(kenshi) with a cyber arm, sword, and high martial arts skill can block with his robo hand, or grab and disarm someone with it. This would be very cool for the holy paladins, take away their weapons and give them only robo arms, and watch the awesomeness begin. Give the robo handed guy a special finishing move he can do where he grabs the sword, holds it, then kills you while you try to get your sword back. If the sword is sharp enough, you can counter by cutting his fingers off, or if you are faster, draw your secondary sword instead. This adds coolness to the game.

On the second thought: How can you break the immersion to a game that isn't finished yet?

I would like to think that if you had cybernetic limbs you could make them wireless. Then I could fling my robot hand at your face and watch it go! The hand would cover your eyes and pinch your nose shut while I stab you in the guts. Glorious.

Ooh! You could always scratch your back right where it itches! Everyone would want a wireless robot hand.

I do agree with mechanical limbs till certain point, but Cyber limbs as you describing, now that s going too far, especially wireless ones (now thats just silly sorry to say). And i don t think killing moves wil be added, sa there is nothing to "one shot kill you" nor seem to will be a thing in this game, or else you d be loosing a lot of characters fast especially in the begining.
