thats a good idea. and if you get ambushed and cant use, oh well. sorry bout your bad luck. :) introduces some strategy to the game.

Actually, I wonder if that last option will exist? Would be really fun to cart a heavy deployable ballista or other turret around with your caravan/squad and set it up to provide covering fire. Would want it to be heavy and take some time to set up though...
you could always just slap some wheels on it and make one or two of your men drag that bad boy through the desert.

i would love to see some guy in the distance get impaled by a dart. could add to panic factor and make the mob flee after seeing one of their guys die a horrible death.

Just read through this and want to say if they want to know anything about the moves in a couple of Martial Arts, I can help.

9 Years experience of Tae-Kwon-Do (South Korean Art, Mainly Kicks) , Muay Thai (Science of Eight Limbs), Brazilian Ju Jitsu (Grappling and Ground Fighting) and Kenpo (Self Defence) could be useful for this wouldn't ya say?

Yeah that made me think of this.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SwNXQMoNps

I vote for the ability to impale multiple enemies with the ballista. (Ballista with wheels, on sale now! Only at Crazy Vasili's!*)

I'm practicing karate, although I've not practiced weapons, and I don't think we do weapons versus unarmed. However, I can think of some options for blocking.

1. As a last resort, knuckles can block many swords, especially if the knuckles have been hardened from training. However, this would be a short-term solution only, as it could only last several battles before being beyond repair.

2. If the weapon is, like, a short weapon, then it's simple to close the distance right after a strike. After all, martial arts are about repeated quick strikes (that can still shatter bones).

3. If you do it right, you could parry it by hitting the side of the sword with your palm.

4. Gloves. Even if we're using boxing gloves, boxing gloves have been shown to increase the chance of brain damage and death in boxing. However, we could use thinner gloves.

Meh, for fighting against long bladed weapons, a martial artist would probably dodge and counter with a kick or summit, if they're up against a short bladed weapon they could maybe grab the guy's hand and disarm him or break the arm, if they have like an Escrima Stick (Filipino weapon) then they could block with that.

I wouldn't recommend adding shit like Nunchaku or Shuriken or anything like that because they're actually pretty useless. Boe and Escrima, maybe Kama.

You don't disarm someone by grabbing his hand. You grab his wrist and hit his hamstring, and then you decacipitate him with your bare first.

Seriously, though. Dodging a weapon isn't something that makes sense. If they're swinging from left to right, you can only step back, but then you lose any opportunity to attack while they attack again.

Seriously. Gloves.

Are you an idiot? It's called move back and spring forward as they try to recover for a back swing. We do drills like that all the time at my Martial Arts School.

Against long weapons you want to get inside the effective range and stay on top of them so they can't effectively use it.
Against short weapons you want to prevent the strike by attack their arms and keeping them locked up.
Against range stay in motion while trying to stay unpredictable.

You start backing up and you're like to never stop in a vicious fight. There is springing forward but that risks your footing and could get you bowled over if they've decided to pursue you and build up some momentum which is likely when you're backing up. The only occasions I've had where a bait and spring style attack would work involving weapons is if we weren't moving when I initiated the trap. When I start backing up I either need to escape or stop in place and hold against them.

I've had a bit from the other side after disarming opponents more acclimated to grappling than me. When they give ground they tend to lose but if they immediately get on top of me they stand a better chance.

How long was the weapon? Also, how experienced was the fake attacker? Oh, and was the weapon a sharp one?

Ok how about this situation. You are outnumbered 1 to 4, one guy has the plank sword ,two have a sabre and one has a katana. (This is of course kenshi) The people are all medium experienced and you are an expert in the martial arts skill. What would you do / how would you handle the situation? (what type of dodge, parry, block or strike/attack).

That one.
Alternatively I'd call my wire fighting team and talk to the director as well as the choreographer. We'd also discuss safety guidelines with the stunt men who compose my enemy. Because that's the only way I'm winning bare fist.

If I had to I'd rush plank boy first, disarm him, and use the bloody plank to kill the man with the katana first. The sabers with be easier to beat.

Probably try and get round the guy with the plank and hit him in the back of the head with a kick stunning or knocking him out (If It only stunned him I'd give him a firm Kidney Punch), use his body as a temporary meat-shield until I've disarmed the guy with the Katana and then fight off the remaining two using that.
