It's not even that bad nowadays. And it seems to be HDD loads mostly, so you either need an SSD or tons of RAM. Not sure about RAM though, as the game may not use it to a full extent. It's above 4Gb, but it's not exactly clear how far above.

Also, if your CPU is 2 cores just like mine, my condolences, brother :)

Running this game on a quad core CPU with 16 gb RAM...But then again we're talking about laptop CPU's here so they may as well be dualcores lol. The game runs pretty good overall. Not that many stutters except when loading stuff. The only place where i have really trouble is the swamps. Also have you tried toning down grass density, diabling water reflections and shadows and the like? Made a ton of difference to me. I'm als running it on the lowest resolution it's capable off BUT with the second highest graphics quality.

Intel.ark will tell you exactly how many cores there are :) Or just google search with your CPU model.

I'm somewhere in the middle ground. Native resolution for my screen and some medium settings with no shadows.

Shadows used to be a big deal, but lately seemed to be amended (somehow).

In my experience, nowadays quality textures, grass density and terrain quality are the most important variables given a specific draw distance.

Always talking about native resolutions, of course.

But believe me, these days the game is all about smoothness compared to a year ago or so. I think devs broke their asses on 0.9 update to give us a playable Kenshi in medium level machines.

Yeah, too bad (or maybe i should count myself Lucky?) I only discovered this game through Nookrium's playthrough on YouTube and even that one started like 2 years ago. So yeah i haven't witnessed the entire change it went through. But from what i have read online, the idea of the game has still the same "athmosphere" or "feel" to it. This is very well done to the devs part. What i really like about this game and the community is that everyone wants this game to succeed. I feel like the users have had just as much input as the devs themselves. Just look at the recent city overwrides addition that was originally sparked but Shidan. Although i'm not sure they weren't just playing around with the idea before.

Perhaps it is a RAM issue. You don't have enough and the game is forced to use Virtual Ram/Page File. That's actually using your HD as though it where RAM, and HDs (even SSDs) are way slower than RAM. I think the number of squads/characters will have a big impact. Including your own people.

I always turn off the pagefile in my OS. I have 16GB but I'm thinking it is time to upgrade. I can't generally leave FF running while playing, because FF eats up enough RAM to be a problem. Well memory leaks while running at the fastest speed (while traveling) don't help the situation any. It also doesn't help that I like large squads and lots of them.

I think i overestimated my laptop again or perhaps it's because of the new saving system but anyway i turned resolutions to 1600x900 and it still runs really smooth now and i didn't even clean my laptop yet. (it's been a month ago)

On my game with 250 people I get 15 fps max. On my game with 1 guy I get 60 fps unless im in some area that just lags a ton, so I'm 100% sure that most of the lag comes from having more people in general, whether it be from your squad or bumping up the game's npc count (which btw tells you it will become super laggy) Now whether or not it's a CPU issue we have to dive deeper which I'm too lazy to do. I'm sure that the devs will work on this once they're finished with the game itself. Please don't stress them out any more than they need to be.
