My Feedback from a short time playing
Let me start by saying that the concept for Kenshi is really awesome and I'm sure that most of the issues I am going to be talking about will probably get resolved before release. I played the game for a short time and got up to a four man squad with some basic gear. My primary issue with the game right now is just the CTDs that happen so frequently in towns. I'm sure this will be fixed soon. Also, while I know jobs/quests are forthcoming, the way that you currently get started is a little bit silly. It seems like the best way to start up is to hire someone and then go out looking for bandit groups. When you find one you just run back to town, towards a group of soldiers, or towards a group of monks. You then assist the friendly faction in the fight to get some attack skill. I do not think that this should be a valid way to gain skill. To prevent this, how about a fear system where those bandits will realize that they are about to get wrecked and flee before they are engaged. Also when you are using this system you profit from deaths on both sides, so perhaps looting a friendly should draw some aggression from their friends. I know one time I took everything from a holy servant and then someone gave him first aid and he started again with the group except with no clothes or weapons. Some possible ways to get around this system of kiting enemy groups would be to have town defense events or jobs guarding traders that have bandits scripted to attack at some point. Killing a single enemy would also be a good job for people starting out.
