Let's say you are a roaming swordsman, not caring about trade. You encounter quite a few members of different factions on your journey, right? Some of them may be hostile, some of them may help you, some of them may even pass right in the middle of your fighting a group of bandits without caring.
But I usually remember a face (let's say faction here), especially in-game, and as I don't see any sand ninja around, and I have encountered maybe 2 or 3 of them in my entire game progress, I was wandering: How are the faction members "spawned"? Or "recruited"? I really don't know what's going on in the background, but when I click on a starving bandit I see there are 40+ members in their faction, but I remember there were like 4 or 5 members in the sand ninja faction. Now there isn't even anyone to select and see the faction status. Were they wiped out somehow? Is it even possible to obliterate a whole faction?
TL;DR: no sand ninjas in-game. Seems strange. Maybe they are wiped out?
So I would really like Chris to answer (or anyone who knows about Kenshi programming... Which I guess is only Chris.) a question about factions... How do the factions work? I mean, is it possible to wipe out a faction? Or do they constantly add new members in what could be seen a recruiting campaign? If it's possible to wipe out a faction, you could possibly kill everyone and be the sole survivor in the world? Is there a maximum/minimum number of faction members (trader's guild has a huge number of members, but sand ninjas AFAIK has none.)?
If anything else comes to my mind, I'll ask...
faction numbers

I was thinking something like this earlier. I have understood that "every one has a life, home, name" etc. which would mean that everyone can get killed.
If they never spawn back/more people, a problem occurs: The longer you play, the more people are killed through the game. You kill people and other factions kill them too.
Sooner or later, everyone is killed. There's no one left.

Currently it is not possible to wipe out a faction in Kenshi. The member number under the faction tab, is not working...at least to reveal the size of the entire faction.
There are several types of spawns. They can be tied to buildings (merchants, guards, and police) or to area (Bandits, armies, sand ninjas). The area spawn types respawn according to mob group frequency per area. Sand Ninja's are not very frequent when compared to bandits so you will see far less of them.
The rate of spawn for the area is actually adjustable in the construction set, there are many mods that adjust this.
