edge of map

today i was exploring near the edge of map, first time i venture that far out but i was just wondering if this is what its supposed to look like or if this is a bug?

It is not a bug, the map is unfinished. Chis is going to release an update at some point that will increase the size of the map and introduce new biomes (like swamps or forest). While the existing map is unlikely to change, it is only a quarter of the size of the finished map now planned.
