So... what songs do you guys listen to/movies do you watch while you play?

I listen to Japanese harp and flute or catch up on sitcoms that I care little about.

I tried playing without anything, but I got bored fast .

I listen to a lot of Ambient and chill music.

Yes! I had all kinds of stuff playing, but then it hit the Bastion soundtrack and it was amazingly perfect for the style and mood of the game. Take this advice and go download it and enjoy.

The first day I was listening to some lets plays. Last night I was feeling like I needed an information dump so listened to quite a few Extra Credit episodes.

Otherwise I turn on my music player and see what songs the 'auto dj' picks for me. Kinda rough when your listening to a dirty grindy dubstep then switch to a soundtrack from Lord of the Ring then back to a Pop song but it suits me.

The Conan the Barbarian (the schwarzenegger one) soundtrack by Basil Poledouris is pretty good for Kenshi.

Other than that I'd recommend Touhou metal or other metal such as Iron Maiden. Maybe some folk metal, like Sound Horizon.

Boards of Canada Pandora station does the trick. I swear that should be the actual soundtrack of the game.

I actually have a 100 slot internet radio station, although I haven't done much promoting with it.. so there is likely to be MORE than enough slots for anyone to tune in that wants to listen. But you can tune in @ http://is.gd/phateradio

Phate Radio is the name, we do Electro, House, Trance, Dubstep, DnB, although also focus on Video Game Remixes (similar to OCR and the like). We are also looking to promote new artists, so if you have a track you want on an internet radio station, just submit it and we will likely get it onto the air

Currently were just doing streamed radio broadcasts, although from time to time I get on there and manually jockey out the tunes, basically live shows, with simulcast to twitch so users can text in with requests, comments and the like. We are working on the programming to get a schedule of sorts going looking to find other DJs that want to have weekly slots that they take over the station and do their shows from there as well.

I had been doing live DJ shows for nearly a year with another station and decided to branch out and do my own thing since people loved my show so much, I decided that doing the show virtually full time might be a good option for those that want to hear my show more than a few hours a week. And at the same time give me a stretched format to really section off the week, perhaps finding DJ's that specialize in various genre's so each day during the week could be themed a bit.

Long story short, if you like electronica and video game remixes, and playing Kenshi without music can get a bit tedious, we would love to have you tune in and be part of our station. I am constantly tweaking the station and adding more songs and lineups, and we listen to you, so please use our forums with suggestions and comments and we will cater to you

well if u donate 5600 dollars Chris can buy a sound engine and some1 to do the sound effects or something like that :p or was it the license hmm then ull only need some background music

Well, I haven't talked to Chris, so I really don't know what his agenda is on music/sfx, or what methods he is planning on using. This being said, I have about 10k worth of music equipment in my home studio, ranging from a Roland MC-505 to the MC-909 for sequencing, have a Korg MSR-2000 for syth and vocoder, as well as a separate Roland Sampler, and a couple drum machines, as well as a professional version of Ableton. Long story short... if Chris is interested I would be interested in working on this project. Although I think he said in another post he isn't looking to even think about music/sound yet. This being said, if he is planning on it at a certain point, get with me... Plus worse case, I have done voice over work in various online web projects/machinima etc and do voice over radio spots. Just throwing this out here, but I got the gear and I can allocate time to getting a few FX's started to at least get some of the core stuff into the game. Then over the long run work on a few themes, with Chris's careful guidance on themes and stylings. Anywho... let me know

LOL yeah that is pretty much what I read too. But even if he doesn't have plans to let's say put music or SFX in the game in the next, next, next, or even next patch... it wouldn't hurt to start gathering the assets so that when the time comes to actually add them, he can just drop those in and be ready to go.

But if its over a year out .. it probably might be a bit early for me to take the swords in my garage and bang them around for some samples ... but I am still waiting .. just say the word Chris :0

I am expecting a modder to pick up the slack in the sound area, TBH.
Of course, the game would have to support sound input in some way.

Yeah ... but to mod a feature .. it has to exist...

It would be easy to mod and change sound effects... it would be HARD to make a system to make the audio work. And lastly even if someone made a mod for it, if Chris uses a different method to use the sound then the mod instantly becomes useless after that patch...

(same thing with multiplayer ... ANYTHING is possible as far as SOMEONE could MAYBE make a way to get it to work.. and when you make a mod .. its a mod you don't own any of it, so spending a few hundred hours developing a system for a game for fun is usually not what programmers that know how to do this sort of thing do.)

I listen to everything that I'd normally listen to when not playing Kenshi. I listen to whatever I am in the mood for. I always listen to some form of electronic music - from dub techno to hardstyle, but typically trance. Uplifting trance is my favorite. I do love it all though, except for dubstep. That's not to say that there doesn't exist dubstep pieces which I wouldn't like, as I do like liquid DnB - which sort of sounds like dubstep.
