Was away for a while (moving/no net/computer packed up) and got back on-line recently. Excited to see what changes have happened in all the games I enjoy, Kenshi being one of them, I patched and updated and all that. Thought I would check out the experimental version while I was at it.

Did I miss something (I've spent more than one search through the boards to find an answer), but my little dudes and dudettes no longer automatically grab what resources they need to do a job. Stone piles up in the mines, water in the wells, meanwhile my processor isn't working and my farms are dry. I have to manually move resources around in order to keep up production. Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried importing your game since you updated?

I just started a brand new game from scratch. I have to manually move materials around. It is a bit of a pain ((btw, is there any way to move materials from storage to storage, or machine to machine? I always use a characters bag space as an intermediary).

I don't have any save files to import (they are on a hard drive that took a head crash)

Did you assign each character a specific job, or are we assuming that as soon as you send them to work they'll keep at it?

Yes, I have guys mining stone and guys working the stone processor. When the guys working the stone processor run out of stone to process they just stand there until I manually move stone from the mine into the processor or into the inventory of someone working the processor. Same goes for rum still, farms, everything. Plenty of water in the well, no one using it unless I move it into the farm or into the inventory of someone working the farm.

remove the jobs you have, the reset them, making sure the main job you want them to do is first in the list.
check inventories as well. they will stop if there is not enough space.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.

Yup, I've tried all that already. It has to be something with that save. I started a new game and things (so far) are working correctly. I didn't do anything different than before. :/ wierd

For me it's the same.
At some point it seems, that the Job AI is breaking down for collecting resources.
The collector jobs don't seem to be very elaborated and the hauling is not very efficient.

I.E.: If you have two stone mine IX (automated mine) and one Stone Processor VII (that with one operator)
and two storage container for stone and building materials, you WILL see, that the hauling process is not even a bit coherent.
I.E. you'll see the hauler of stone(in my base it's only one with a large trader pack for the two Stone Mines) is not supplying the processor in any kind of way (not entirely true, I have seen my hauler actually give some of the stone to the processor, but only if it's in the path of the storage unit, i.e. if he passes the processor very closely he'll toss some resources in there), he only goes to the storage unit to drop stone.
If you don't have a operator in the processor, you will never see an automated process of hauling building materials with only one hauler, you need for every kind of resource a special hauler.

tl;dr

- Hauling job is not coherent and logical (i.E. stone -> stone processor -> building materials -> storage)
- Hauling system is not efficient ( -> Hauler only goes for one resource instead of max resource)

Once you have automated mines you can get rid of ore and stone storage as they are pointless. Use up your existing ore and stone supply (I made tons of armor plates.) Have one person each or just one person run the processors and they will go to the mines and grab stone/ore and take it to the processor and they will empty the processor as well and fill the steel/building mats boxes. I deliberately have those boxes far from the processors and use heavy armor samurai to move the materials as a strength trainer.

You only ever need enough ores to fill the processor anyways. Your armor plate people will go get the ore from the mine. Your building mats person will go get stone from the mines. You don't need those storage boxes and they only complicate your town and pull people from defense and crafting jobs. End game you really only need 1 person to manage your processors. Give them a big backpack and they will run to the stone mine, fill up, walk to the processor and unload, run to the ore mine and fill up, walk to the steel processor and unload, load up on steel, drop that off, run to the stone processor, unload that and then repeat. It is a good idea to build your processors close together so it's easier for your one guy to decide what to do. I notice some times they get stuck wanting to do something in the middle of what they were doing and end up trying to unload something while their backpack is full of something else. Have them auto-haul one time to clear the back pack and they will get back to work.

I highly recommend everyone that has played for over a year or two to start a fresh game from scratch and stop importing old games. There has to be some leftover stuff in the old saves that breaks the AI after a while because my newer games don't seem to have the same problems with path finding and hauling.
