I just started my first one-man army style game recently and I'm pretty glad I waited. Some of the new options, like the ability to buy buildings in towns, make it much less of a hassle than it used to be. :D

Edit:
According to the current gamedata.base (v0.72.1) Dust Bandits only hate the Police and the United Cities and Starving bandits only use the default relations for other factions. From what I can piece together, Police are supposed to fight all kinds of attackers, most other factions are supposed to fight cannibals and both kinds of bandits (but not Sand Ninjas), and the town of Fisher (which has its own faction) is only supposed fight Dust Bandits. An interesting note is that Sand Ninjas have a default relation of 0 (which is only overwritten in the Police entry), but they have an AI package that causes them to insult and attack the player, so I'm not sure if anyone but Police are supposed to fight them off.

No problem. I tend to hang out between Brink, Telbooze, and Trader's Run. No Police, but they've helped whenever I've needed it in the current version. Mostly I'm talking about Brink and Telbooze, I usually don't run into bandits near Trader's Run. I haven't run into Police since they were removed from Brink and Trader's Run, but I haven't gone out of that area much since a few patches ago.

In my game I found that the Cannibals east of Clownsteady are bugged, running around within the camp. They didn't loot me or put me in a cage and only the one I selected to attack would fight me so I built up about 50 endurance, 30 attack, 25 defense and 25 sabres by club-fighting them (it took a looot of getting back up). Fun thing about club-wielding enemies is that they will rarely kill you and blood loss is usually not a problem.

Also, I've found that most enemies will only try to take your equipment if it's useful to them. I've seen them pass up backpacks and their contents, so they seem safe. Plus if you drop a backpack, the bandits will not go after it; they only loot corpses and unconscious people. Can't count on this behavior forever, but for now it's handy.

Your new intro looks way better! :)
And it seems like you got a new mic? Sounds better and softer/cleaner in my humble opinion.
Regarding your building question: yep, you can buy buildings in towns already! Just click their doors and in the lower left you can see a button.

But please turn down the volume of the intro a bit, already in Part 1 it scared the shit out of me because it is that loud

I must second this, it's much louder than your voice so it's a bit rough (especially at the end of the video once you get used to the voice volume).

Also, I came across some Police in Catun and Port South in case that helps.
