Hi guys, just curious where you set your bases up? I haven't found 'the place' for me yet, I've been trying to find a place with really high iron and stone but also good water and fertility, which seems to be impossible. :p

If any of you know of a place let me know! And post any awesome spots you've set your base up at below, screenshots are a bonus. :3

it is nearly impossible. which is how it was intended. this was added to keep players from turtling in one spot on the map.

but there are many spots all along the current map where you can come close.
most though are around accessible cliff areas, which means flat areas are hard to come by.

one good spot is on the north side of the canyon between black scratch and eye socket. very top of a little jutting cliff peninsula. it is high in stone and iron, while at the base is good with water and fertility.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

I usually go for a spot with higher water and fertility. That makes producing rum and bread easier, which I think will be important when I actually need to feed my characters. Also after most of your building is done you don't need the mines as much.
If you build at the base of a cliff you can place a good stone mine up on the hill and just have one person running back and fourth to collect the stone (best to give them an escort).

I also like to build within a triangle of at least 3 other cities. Gives me more options for trade, caravans stop by more often. If you place your outpost near a pass that is a choke point you will get much more action from roaming bandits as well.

(spoiler)
There is one place near Catun that is the nirvana that you are looking for. 100 fertility, 90 water, 90 stone, 80 iron, one way up, easy turret placement on the bluffs above, perfect zombie apocalypse vacation spot. But it is small so I only use it as a base for my nomadic games. It's also too close to Catun so that hinders building. I'll keep the exact location a secret so you can have the fun of looking for it.

I, set up base the first point I could. High plateu, with several connecting faces, so easy to control, and plenty of warning for raiders, but it has rather poor fertility and water. I might need to branch out soon....as soon as I get my Stone Mine, so I have free building material.

Everyone seems to go for different things. There's another thread in the forums where people talk about theirs. I put mine in that valley behind Trader's Run or whatever it's called. Near the mountains it has everything you need. There's a pass in those mountains so you have a way out through the mountains if shit hits the fan, though I've yet to have things go that south. It's on a grade, so things won't sit well on the terrain, but I'm hoping that will be a thing that gets addressed at some point, though not real high up on my list of wishes.

I've done a lot of prospecting, although this was about 6 months ago or so, there's quite a few places you can place your base(s). Matter of preference really. Mountain stronghold, thriving trade outpost, reclusive homestead, hidden plantation. Just depends on what you like and how you want to play.

As to why, I like my base by towns for recruiting, if I ever decide to stop being lazy and figure out how to make a decent shop, that's a nice spot to get caravans coming and going, and it's in a pretty contested area (or was til I set up camp) so there's lots of combat for training.
