Crossbow "shoot sound" selection not working, anyone use this successfully?

I have a mod weapon crossbow I am trying to make some tweaks to, most especially the sound.

For "shoot sound" under "gun stuff," there are only four options - Crossbow, Crossbow Turret, Harpoon Gun, and Harpoon Turret.

The Spring Bat uses the Harpoon Gun sound. All other hand-held xbows use Crossbow. The placed turrets use either xbow turret or harpoon turret depending on tech level.

Thing is, no matter WHAT I change this selection to, the weapon in game makes the exact same "thwip" firing sound as a toothpick. I have tried all four options. None of them seem to work. I am hoping to have it use the Harpoon Turret sound effect (SHOOM!) as the second-best option to being able to use my own sound effect. I don't understand why the choice in this drop-down is not being honored in the game.

Has anyone used this and gotten a crossbow or other weapon to make any sound other than "thwip?"

Seriously, this has been driving me nuts for a while. I don't see what I could be missing at this point; if it's tied to reload animation or whathaveyou, everything else seems to be in its proper place.
