Animation and Rigging in Kenshi!

Greetings all, interested in the character and animation side of video games. I want to create something, like a creature, companion. If anyone here could be so kind to point me in the right direction I would be more than grateful! I.e what software should I use?
I know there is probably some hardcore neck-beard reading this feeling a burning sensation inside of himself, but we all have to start somewhere, right?
Thanks.

I would recommend Cinema 4D, you can model and animate your character with only this software. I got it for my job and that's pretty awesome. You could also use Zbrush to modeling faster and easier, then use 3Dcoalt for rotopology.
Or you could use Blender (it's free) for modeling, and I don't know about animation soft for free :/

Animating software can be done in Blender3D (Sorta build in kinda thing) theres a guide I found sorta useful at times for knowing more about the UI and stuff:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
Its a wiki book and thats the site's content page. Hope it helps Blender3D is a pretty decent program for being free oh Cinema4D is good too I used to use it thinking that Blender was more advanced (kinda is but if you get used to it everything is fine) I personally prefer 2.49b but thats a bit outdated and you can do much more smoother editing with the newer versions.
