Hi guys,

I'm trying to do a simple retexture of the merc plate armour by opening the dds file in photoshop, editing it and then saving. The problem is that in game, the armour just shows up completely black, rather than the altered colour. When you make a texture, what settings do you save it with? I guess I could be using the wrong ones.

Bumpity bump.

As a bonus, here's a picture of the retextured armour not working.

It also seems that if I just resave a dds texture it will stop working, so I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the settings I'm using...

Hmm all I can think that would cause a problem is maybe the program you're using, does it have a specific exporter to dds that comes with the program such as Paint.net(don't type that into your web browser that actual website has viruses that's that actual name of the program) or does it require an extra install like Photoshop which uses the Nvidia dds exporter, from what I know both of these examples work fine but then again I don't do texturing much when it comes down to that it's usually my brother, but from what I know you have to make sure you edited the right texture, from what the forgotten construction kit says there should be a normal map and texture map but yeah that's as far as my texturing knowledge goes.

So far I'm working on Buster Sword, Auron's Masamune, Bows, Mace, Dark Knight Halbred, Zangetsu, Guts' Dragon Slayer, Zweihander, Baselard, Daedric Two handed axe, and more to follow.

Yeah, it's photoshop, with the nvidia plugin. I've made textures for skyrim and stuff before, so it's only kenshi and the ogre engine I've had issues like this.

Solved it when I put the textures in the official game folders, rather than keeping them in ones I had made myself. All seems to work now.

My new textures are in the game's original file location but I still only get the default black "missing texture" look.

Any ideas?

Ok the problem I had was the file format. You must save the .DDS in the BC1/DXt1 format.
