Key not working for steam

Hi. I'm sorry to bother you but my update for kenshi is no longer working so I tried to use my key and register it through steam but it won't accept it as a valid key. I bought the game from the website back in the day. I do not have a name before my key... And i've copied it and even tried typing it in seperately. I appreciate your time... ty
