In a way I suppose you could see it like that, though I think it's missing the point, I've been playing Visual Novels since they first started popping up in the west so I'm probably a bit biased but I'll try and explain why I don't consider Katawa Shoujo as a "porn game". There certainly are VN's that are of the genre 'nukige' which for lack of a better word is a porn game (though I don't really consider VN's to be 'games' rather they're 'choose your own adventure' books with voice acting (though Katawa Shoujo doesn't have voice, it does have excellent animation on each route) and art that are in the form of a program) that focuses on sex before any thing else but a game like Katawa Shoujo puts the character and story first way before sex. (the first release of the VN didn't even have any sex scenes in it)Blxz wrote:So its a porn game about disability fetishes?
I love the game mainly because I can somewhat relate in the fact that I had to leave school during grade 4 due to severe health problems and I didn't go back till grade 11 at a specialized school similar to the one portrayed in this game. I loved all the lead characters, they were sufficiently fleshed out and felt... I suppose "real". Whilst all the characters are 'disabled' in some way and it ties into the plot heavily it doesn't single it out and deals with it very well, being sensitive but not avoiding it. The girl with no legs is an amazing runner on the track team (using prosthetic limbs of course), the deaf girl is the student council president and has a childhood friend that translates everything for her into sign, the girl with no arms is a painter, but the thing is the disabilities are a part of the character and it doesn't stand out and make you say, "Ughh she's disabled" (I hardly even noticed it) but rather that it's a fact of life and the characters have mostly come to grips with it and continue doing what they love the same as if they weren't disabled.
The story is amazingly done especially for a group of international people from 4-Chan (yes THAT 4-Chan) that did all the work and then released it for free. Well enough with this wall of text, I went on a tirade that didn't explain it very well (I'm not a very good writer ;D) but if you have any curiosity about it at all have a look, I highly recommend it.

It's hard to pick just five, but I will do my best.
1: Dwarf Fortress. (Because nothing is more beardy than a dwarf and nothing is more dwarfy than !FUN!)
2: Mass Effect trilogy (Can I pick a trilogy? I don't care. I loved Mass Effect for the narrative and the gameplay wasn't bad either. I guess this is a bit controversial because I know a lot of fans felt disappointed with the end of ME3, but personally I loved all the games.)
3: Minecraft. (I don't play it very often anymore, but purely based on the amount of time I've invested in this game I think it deserves a mention on my part.)
4: League of Legends (Please don't throw stuff at me)
5: Skyrim. (Some would call it overrated, probably because it was, but I absolutely loved the setting and I still play it on and off from time to time.)

The beard is a powerful ally and a terrible foe.
1,2 Metal Gear 3 and 4
3. Age of Empires I then II
4. Legend of Dragoon (Pretty awesome and not many people have heard of it)
5. Baldur's Gate and Diablo 1 since I played them both at the same time when I was little lol.
I'm a big Metal Gear Fan there's no denying that but aside from that I've loved playing Legend of Dragoon when I was little and had no clue what was going on except I could just random grow wings and do massive amounts of damage lol, then I got Diablo and was incredibly scared of the butcher lol, I had to lock him in rooms with bar where I could pwn him with a bow and well Baldur's Gate needs no introduction that game is so awesome I'm sure a lot of people will agree, oh and yeah Age of Empires another game I played a lot when I was younger one of the first games I got with a computer lol. Remembering those games brings back memories of how useless I was at AoE building a billion houses thinking I had to fill up the whole Island lol

I thought it was an offshoot of X-COMUndefinedM wrote:shame the series went down the drain after that one.wait aftermath was the first one, right?

Yes, aftermath was the first one. I actually liked all of them in their own ways though. I loved the clean and simple idea of aftermath although item construction and management was a little frustrating. I loved the multi-base idea of Aftershock and far more streamlined item and weapon management although resources were shit. And I loved the setting and idea of terraforming mars in Afterlight. Especially the way it was executed with oceans filling up and rendering some of your early territories uninhabitable. But the crazy simplicity of the guns was perhaps less interesting than previous games.
What can I say, I'm a loving guy. Each game has some major flaws; for me though I find that each game fills a different niche in my catalogue. I don't need to view them as sequels trying to improve on the last, rather I can see them as independent games each trying to do the squad based thing in its own way. This, for me, greatly extends the replayability and I've played through each a number of times.

i must say, i played all 3 of them many, many, many hours. Even when i was complaining about this or that major fault i kept playing them so yeah, they're ok. They could have been great, though. Basically for me they were like tomacco. Not that good, but couldn't stop playing them.
If only they had more random maps like the first..

So... has nobody here ever heard of WAR Inc.? I figured that at least a couple of X-COM / UFO: gamers would have heard of this RTS/Strategy game. Haven't seen anothher game quite like it.
