If you can pick any five games from the 90s,(games you've played in the 90s or from the 90s) what would make your top five?

Might & Magic VII
Dukenukem 3D
Toonstruck
Commander Keen
Command & Conquer Original

Probably the best decade for gaming :)

just making a quick brainstorm i remember:

1: goldeneye 007 (N64)
1: starcraft (PC)
1: X-COM (PC)
2: final fantasy VI+VII (PS1)
2: civilization 2 (PC)
2: diablo (PC)

(that's my top 2 :P )

im not sure about my top list, but there's also those i thought about:

any zelda i guess (ocarina of time or link to the past)
mario kart 64 probably lol (N64)
age of empires 2 may be still on time (PS2 and PC)
and tomb raider (PS1)
doom 1 and 2
warcraft 2, nice game too

I'll think about this again, since i'm forgetting tons of them, but i don't have the time right now. Just naming 5 games out of the best time of gaming is quite difficult.

Live long and prosper,

yeah, even small games like bubble bobble (on the NES) were great lol. I even had a team for that game  (was really small then, a toddler). I was bubble (i like green more then blue) there was bobble and we had bibble and babble too. The team disolved when bibble betrayed us :o

How can one choose? Since I was fairly young when the 90's rolled around most of my gaming took place in the second half but things like the Super NES rocked my tiny little socks back then. Also, starcraft seriously got me into RTS's for a long time. For the life of me though I can't seem to remember any specific titles right now, maybe I'll get back to this thread when i remember some.

Fark yes. I would have made love to that game if the little hole in the cd was about 6 times larger. Even the first one was awesome too, but that might have been a little early for you.

Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana on the SNES. Then Fallout, Planescape and Unreal Tournament. I would put Final Fantasy VII in honorable mention...but once Baldur's Gate dropped, the rpg war between east and west was over.

Mario RPG, was surprisingly good. It probably did not need to be, and it would have still sold well. Instead...yeah, pretty good. (FF8, I would have to disagree with you on...and strongly so.)

The latter part of the 90's saw the advent of Fallout (1997), Baldur's Gate (1998) and Planescape: Torment (1999). Essentially FF7 and Fallout came out at the same time (FF7 was released on PC a year later). Back then Bioware was an indie underdog fighting against corporate squaresoft and sega. So was Blizzard actually, although with Warcraft 2 and Diablo it became pretty well established. It was an interesting time. Lucas art could not lose either, everything it did was golden.

Oh, there was this game called DOOM as well. It was a good time for games, especially PC ones. This decade promises to be even better with kickstarter funding. For the first time we can interact directly with developers and fund them with our monies, instead of being reduced to pre-selected options presented and hyped by publishers. I think some of the titles out there are bizzaro, but I am pleased that they are there. Yep, I think that good things are to come.

Did you 'invest' in Legends of Pegasus? Man the failure of that was spectacular to watch. I loved reading the forums even though I never bought the game.

Christ so many games to pick from, hmm I'd have to say the following;

Azure Dreams
Final Fantasy 7 - 9
Age of Empire 2
Golden Eye
Sonic
Star Fox

The one joy of having a best friend whos family was loaded with money was I got to play his games when I went around to visit, still got most of them in his house somewhere I think.
