What would it be?
even though i love kenshi to death, its still not my perfect game.
if i could program a game of my own i know what it would be like.
For starters it would be like Civilization series at the start. stone age start.
I could wander around like in the world of Kenshi but on a world map, i could grow my empire over time like in the Europa Universalis series and hearts of iron. All with the ability it still be able to focus on your personal set of players like Kenshi.
Then be able to get into space like Kerbal space program. then start colonizing your system's like MOO3 and galactic Civilization II.
All the while each time you attack a planet, you go back to kenshi style of combat. taking over each world like in EU and HOI.
For me that would be the most awesome game ever if i could program.
A game where you start off with few people with no tech, then you discover fire. and the race begins. fighting across the planet to keep your civilization , until you become a nations tate, fighting against other nations, all the while going thru a tech tree that makes other games look puny. living thru the harsh times against your neighbours. colonizing the entire planet then slowly taking over the other nations. until you either achieve world conquest or a diplomatic unification.
The you look to the stars. making your first rudimentary space craft. achieving orbit for the first time, making your first space stations and sending off probes to the systems other planets, until you begin to colonize those. with either a united effort or a inner solar system war with breakaway faction from the mother planet.
all the while still able to jump back down to the basics like Kenshi, one on one combat and armies fighting. Space battles raging above you like in Eve while you call down fire support. slowly expanding until you finally leave your home solar system. discovering new worlds and colonizing them. until you conquer the known galaxy.
and for me that would be the perfect game.
grand strategy on a grand scale. now just wish for computers that could actually pull that idea off.
That is my idea of a perfect game

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.

I love Pharaoh!! It's just so good! Still have it somewhere and it's one of those games that I keep going back to at times
Basically I complete the campaign maybe once or twice every year
I really wonder why they never made sequel for so good game.

I would have to have the game have full Oculus Rift support, full 1:1 step Virtuix Omni support, and ideally perhaps even complete dual Thalmic Labs Myo armband support.
The intro would start with this song (provided he didn't want an exorbitant licensing fee): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMk_U_mk7NA
The screen during the intro would show the right side of a roadway in a rural area, moving at around 55mph. At the point in the song the lyrics say "but you're not going anywhere" the camera would slow a bit and pan left to see the exterior of a prisoner transport van. At this point the camera would turn into a chase cam for the last few moments of the trip into a supermax prison.
You would be removed from the vehicle in shackles, both wrist and ankle. You wouldn't be told anything much by the guards, no conversations would be untoward for an inmate transferred to a Supermax facility. I'd have to play with it to see what I could get away with regarding motion sickness and player disorientation using the Rift, I'd like things to start off where it seemed like you were drugged, but it might exacerbate motion sickness for players prone to it. I'd want the guards to physically shove you along if you were too slow for their liking, but again this might be super disorienting so I'd have to dial it in. You would be addressed by your prisoner identification number, and led to a single occupant cell. The guards would let it drop that you were on Death Row, they might say something like "Enjoy your new home, we'll take good care of you for the rest of your life, which ought to be about three weeks"
At this point in the game, after the guard left, you'd hear a voice coming from the cell next to you. You'd be asked a series of questions you could answer or ignore, but these questions would give you the chance to name yourself similar to how you did that in Morrowind. Your answers would determine if you had any family which might come into play. You might be able to customize your race to aid suspension of disbelief, but not your sex obviously as you're in a prison and I'd want the thing to be voice acted and you'd immediately double your voice acting costs for the prisoners (as well as having to have the questionnaire come from a guard which would make absolutely no fucking sense since they'd damn well know).
And rather than go on in this much detail on the rest of your stay, I'll just sum it up in the next paragraph so this doesn't turn into a twenty page long post.
You'd have a number of options when you were in the new prison, you'd have various other inmates whose lives you could influence, and about a week in you might be approached with a chance to break out depending on who you had allied with. Regardless of whether you broke out or died afterward the game would wrap up and do a Fallout style "This is what happened to _____ afterwards" shot by shot breakdown of how your actions or lack thereof affected everyone, including the crimes committed by the people who you broke out with if you go that route. And I think if you turned in the breakout plot you'd get shanked in the shower unless you were damned good at the melee combat.

Why, because of the Facebook acquisition? How much research have you done on the subject? Palmer Luckey, John Carmack, Atman Binstock et al are the driving forces behind Oculus. Previously they've had issues securing the hardware they wanted, display manufacturers would effectively ask how many million units they wanted when they were making the DK1, and when they said they wanted 50k they would laugh and hang up. Just a few months before the Kickstarter some Rift prototypes were held together with duct tape.
Giving Oculus 400,000,000 dollars in liquidity for R&D is a game changer, and the day to day at Oculus won't be changing. At this point it's tough to say what this means in the long term, but what you seem to be suggesting would basically be akin to Yum Foods buying Soylent, and scrapping their product to try to get their scientists to work on a better tasting veggie burger. It's far too early in the game for the purchase of Oculus to be anything more than a serious vote of confidence from one of the most well known companies in the tech sector in the future of VR.
Whether we look back on this and see it was for good or ill in 20 years time, it's undoubtedly going to be a turning point for Oculus, but just because you purchase a company doesn't mean that you can force all the employees to sign a noncompete or anything. If buying a name for 400 million dollars cash and 1.6 billion dollars in Facebook stock winds up demanding any significant changes from the company, we'll be seeing a lot of these well known names from the company jumping ship over the next few years.

In short terms, I'm calling you and raising you "the time EA bought <insert company here>".

EA is a totally different corporate entity, but their acquisitions of DICE and Bioware didn't affect those companies products very much. Of course for every EA acquisition that didn't have hugely negative affects there were probably four where they drove a company into the ground. Molyneux had some interesting insight into the acquisition of Bullfrog recently, on that subject.
That being said, Facebook bought Instagram nearly two years ago, and their user base is still free to post insipid sepiatoned pictures of their dinners to their hearts content without logging in to Facebook. We'll just have to wait and see exactly what this means for the future of Oculus. If you want to continue this discussion I'll be happy to, but lets move it to PMs if you do, so as not to derail this thread any more thoroughly than we already have.

I don't have much opinion of FB buying OR. It doesn't automatically mean it's ruined and I believe FB has the resources and all the chances to make OR into something amazing. But I believe that they have all the chances to ruin and destroy it as well. I will be following how things go on from now on but I'm not betting either options yet. I want to hear want FB plans to do with OR exactly before judging anything.
PS. Clawdius, I want to hear more how the story goes on
That sounded awesome and you should be a game designer of some sort. Maybe make a text based game on the forums now and sell it to Facebook in couple years to release with the occulus?

A perfect game for me?
Hm. A perfect game for me would have to have a "Homefront" basis, with a "The Last of Us" flare. You could have a few options to begin with, a few different characters if you will. Three, maybe four, each with their own "Mass Effect" decision-based actions. It would be freeroam, such as GTA, with many chances to alter your characters path, or feelings. Going back to the story; It'd have to be Homefront based. So, an invading country would take over U.S.A/Canada/Great Britain, and would force the citizens into an oppressed item, a perfect enslaved place. However, in small old towns around major cities, would be rebel groups. So you'd have three main groups, the Oppressing Army, the Civilians, and the Rebels. A character in each zone would suffice.
For gameplay aspects, there would have to be a LOT of storyline. Each character with different moral standings, depending on your choices. Your choices would directly affect said characters life, in a way that could give them friends to help them, or enemies to fight them, per say. The civilian can make friends, or become an anti-social suicide bomber if the player wanted. The Army character, could feel bad, and help the Rebels collect info and supplies, or reign over the civilians with an iron grasp. The rebel, could supply and help fleeing civilians, or be a total bandit.
As I said before, it would have to be very decision based. You have to make your choices wisely, or else you could lead your character and their friends into death. Decisions would have to me set out on a minor, and major scale. Ranging from a kid asking for food in the street, to the possibility of jumping supplies for the local rebels. I think those types of decisions would be AMAZING for me.
Another AMAZING feature would be the choices of disabilities and such, including Charles Bonnet Syndrome, or Paracusia. Things to add development to the character. Another important feature would be closed Co-Op. To be able to develop alongside two or three other friends would be AWESOME. Even if one person went offline, the other games would run off with the other players as if they were there. There could be trade systems, wars, alliances, anything.
This all probably seems really obnoxious, but to me it all makes sense!
