I for one am a huge fan of the building and expanding aspect of this game, and as such, I have a lot of issues with going from person to person the moment I get attacked in order to put them back on their jobs. However, if there were a way for me to provide a list of situations where I wanted each of my people to be doing particular things, I would be ecstatic. I personally know this would make my gameplay much smoother, allowing for me to keep a better eye on how my resources and production progress are going.
As far as how this might look, I could see it going in the main menu with the research and crafting lists, and it would appear similar to that of the crafting screen, and there would be many ways of coding this in, each having different appearances, so Chris can change what he feels necessary until it is to his liking, however for the sake of explanation, I'll explain it in terms of how I picture it.
I basically picture two lists. One would be a list of situations where one might choose to change the tasks assigned to each of the members of the faction. For example, when trying to produce copious amounts of rum as a money making endeavour, I only need people to run the wheat field, stills, and one person to go around and autoloot from the stills (which is not yet an option, as far as I know, but another thing I might be interested in seeing), and the rest of the squad can guard the city while this process goes.
Then you might want to undertake a large construction project, so you have to have production of building materials, and people assigned to the construction job. However, perhaps I'm looking to merely build up resources, so I might have one person on the loom, wheat fields, hemp fields, and the processors. in the second list, you would have the ability to go, person to person, and assign the jobs for each particular situation.
The selection of a particular situation would reassign each person in the squad, making even the early raids less tedious to deal with after the final result. I know for one that with as many people as I have, it's tedious to remember who does what job in my outpost.
Overall, I know this may be a little complex, but it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to answer any inquiries about this request as well, so just feel free to comment!
Thanks for the consideration and interest!

next time you make a post, space it out so people can read it properly.
Either i skipped a line or 2, or you need to explain a little bit better what your trying to say.
As for Auto looting and job management.
I read some things about Auto looting, i dont think it is confirmed but seems like its a possible option in later updates.
The job management is confirmed to be in the game. not how you mentioned i think but then i couldnt understand what you said that much.
so ya, please space out your topic so people can understand it easier

The world is nothing but an illusion of the mind
I had trouble with that too.
With auto loting i didn t saw, jsut lately for the "auto equip", where once you assign someone he will pick his respective equipement, tho automatic stuff, at least some like looting, should be rather, might sound weird but, "unblockable" when having a bigger numbers of members because, if having few people and using is just bing lazy not micromanaging xD.

What I'm saying is that when I'm playing the game, I don't usually appreciate that if bandits are raiding my outpost, I always have the wrong people fighting and the wrong people working (Lately I have had less overall trouble with this as I learned that people can just stand idle and proceed to act as a guard).
RE: The auto looting, as for some reason this is all anyone took away from my post
I didn't mean from bodies. I meant there are things which don't have storage boxes yet, such as rum and steel bars. These machines force me to micromanage in the manner in which I play. I have about 5 different rum stills and to have one person going around to each of these instead of having him automatically loot them for the rum becomes a real distraction when I also have to focus on two parties going to opposite cities in order to hire more for my mini-militia.
RE: The situational aspect of the request
I have different goals that I set for myself as I progress. Maybe one day I want to build a s-iv outpost. At 200 materials, prior to a couple days ago, I didn't have this much stored up at one time. So I would want a situation named construction. This situation would then have linked to it a list of my squad and their jobs when I want to construct something. If, after the construction project, I decide I want to dedicate time to rum production, I have to go around my outpost, assign each person a new job, and then, after I decide where I want everyone to be, some bandits come by and the entire squad goes to fight, leaving their jobs. After the fight, which currently I have a group of only 5 able to fight any bandit raid, all my people must be reassigned. This is a nuisance when you are operating a large squad.
I hope this provided a better idea and clearer description of what I'm looking into.
@hbrown, first of all, I am somewhat of a lazy person or I wouldn't be gaming
And second of all, you only have a small squad for a while, supposing you start with the band of rebels.
I'm dealing with a squad of about 15 people now, which can get tiring and tedious after too much time spent assigning jobs.

I know that for a while now, if you re-read my post you cna see i said a situation for both of the situations, small squad and larger squadsF3arTh3R3ap3r wrote:@hbrown, first of all, I am somewhat of a lazy person or I wouldn't be gaming![]()

Well that part of the looting you mena i missunerstood then, it will be, i think i can called fixed, as there will be jobs to be assigned in the future which will cut off the micromanage, and might also "fix" the problem you mentioned.
On a sidenote, all your workers, even when busy, if not attacked, they will engage when a hostile comes by? That doesn t happen to me, they will keep doing what they were, if not just standing, unles they attacked first.

That's correct, but at the moment, without the walls, I have no way to guarantee the raiders won't attack the workers. When the walls are built, granted, I will have the opportunity to eliminate this fact, though it still would make it simpler to switch focus from construction to production of rum to production of weapons. Each requires most of my workers to do something different.hbrown wrote:On a sidenote, all your workers, even when busy, if not attacked, they will engage when a hostile comes by? I never said this mod was a must, but it would just be a luxury in my opinion. A luxury I would love to have that would make my outpost far more capable of progress at the rate I would like. I want to eventually be able to just destroy all other factions and their respective cities, reigning supreme among the people of Kenshi, but I can't do that if I have to micromanage my outpost. I'm not complaining, just hoping for a feature.

Soon we'll at least be able to assign jobs to our squad, so that they'll resume their tasks when something interrupts them. I imagine one of those jobs will be something like a gopher, who empties any filled machinery and fills any empty machinery, and while you may have to manually switch guards or gophers over to construction it will be a lot less tedious when producing a huge wall with many segments or several dozen windmills when they move from task to task on their own.

So this update has solved my issues with the jobs and such. So happy that Kenshi has delivered!
