Currently light affects your stats, but that's about it for what this game offers, but I think this could be expanded upon to offer the player more ways to approach combat and thievery.
I would like to see it become possible for the player to interact with the many light sources of the game.
Surely its conceivable to take a crossbow and shoot to break a lamp post right? Or what about wrapping some leather or cloth around an electric torch, or climb a lamppost and wrap it with cloth/leather, or extinguishing a normal torch? Perhaps some lights in a city/facility are controlled by some central room, what if you could get access to that room/controls, what if you could hack them, or turn them off and then break the controls so it can't be switched back on?
What about adding special equipment that is meant to be used in the dark to get some advantage over your opponent. Using a crossbow in the dark is likely very hard to aim, but what if it had some special glow in the dark sights that made it possible? If you had such a weapon you could fire on people standing in the light from the darkness with better accuracy.
By adding ways for the player to interact and control light sources you give new opportunities to influence and get the upper hand in combat and possibly open up new possibilities for thievery.
Maybe some dumb enemies use glow in the dark paint for reasons, making them easier targets, maybe some wild animals have natural glowing body parts either as a weakness or as a trap, maybe the player can use glow in the dark paint as a weapon to highlight enemies.
Expanding to uses and interaction with lights for combat. [Kenshi 2]
Adding to this, you could also have animals with night vision and those without.
You could also consider a day/night cycle to the animals in terms of diurnal and nocturnal animals. This could be used to change the difficulty of a region, during the day you could wander into easy enemies while at night the big predators come out to hunt. Or the other way around, you could want to only pass through a region at night because that's when all the big beasts are sleeping.
