Poison and infections

How about poisoning your blades with plant or animal secretions, and also getting infected by rusty weapons? This would open a whole new world of nightmares: fevers, unconsciousness, even gangrened limbs. Each time I fight bandits and I see the weapons they carry I instantly think Tetanus!
