Admittedly, I get where you're coming from in regards to them not having a seemingly "official" name.. But then again, when I look at the world of Kenshi, i don't get the feel that there's much official anything going on the world.

That may just be it. Perhaps people don't really care enough to really give them a name.. I don't really find it emmersion breaking at all personally. I think we're just so used to a connected society that has to directly and thoroughly identify everything we come across, that any "we don't really care" name seems completely off the wall to us.

But being away from the "justfying", it would indeed be interesting to see what people can come up with.
That being said, why not? Nothing is saying the devs might not like something they see and adopt it.

I think the name fits. I'm thinking that they got it when people would see someone running like heck past them and would yell out "Why are you running!?!"
And a faint reply would echo back from the distance, "Beeeeak Thinnnngs!"
At which point the person would not stand around to think of a more appropriate name. They would just start running as well.

But I can also see a washed up book worm sitting in the Hub bar, writing his definitive dissertation on the "Carnivorous Peckiosaur".

I just call the damn things "freaking aggressive pack hunting weird looking carnivores armadillos" but I doubt that would stick.

Actually, their new official name is Gutter (because they like to eat guts. Thanks to our volunteer Gauthier who came up with it). There are a few references to it in the game but probably quite rare to notice. I didn't think Beak Thing rolled off the tongue so well.

I can actually hear the strained cries of, "Gutters!," ringing out across the ramparts already. That works!

I think the most people in kenshi don't even know how those beasts are called. At all it won't help when one of these things are ripping everything inside you to the outsides.
