I see we have fish in the game to eat, but so far I do not see a way to catch them. I assume this is planned, but if not I am requesting it. We need both fishing poles and nets to place in a river to automatically catch fish for us. Maybe nets will catch less per hour but will do it unmanned so there is a trade off.

what ever the method I just would like to see a way to catch the fish to eat rather than buying them.

this also brings up another Idea I had posted in the past, we need to be able to find food in the wild more. things like wild wheat, greenfruit, rice, etc. so we can collect it to eat on the go, or to bring back to base for farm construction.

Basically I would like more ways for low level parties to sustain themselves while exploring. at higher levels sure you can kill Bulls and goats etc. but a low level party will get wiped out by a herd of bulls or goats, so a method to forage that does not include combat would be great.

I agree with the concept if not the particulars.

Nets are more efficient in every way then pole fishing, they should have greater yield over time, but not immediate results as pole fishing has. They require man-power similar to how the game handles wheat fields, to set the net and gather the catch but otherwise require little-to-no work. As far as game balance goes, pole fishing should be a 'camping' set similar to campfire, you could then cook the fish on the camp fire to produce an edible product. Nets should be a level 1 research and require building (like fields require building only needing net materials rather then seed, maybe fabric since it's already In the game and of limited early use.) You should also be able to build a smoke house to cook the fish which would be more nutritious then camp-fire cooked fish (for game balance and to simulate the better shelf-life of smoked over cooked.)

Pole fishing would require a skill as a newbie would basically have to fish full time just to feed himself, much less other teammates or have extra to sell. This 'fishing' skill would also be used for harvesting nets similar to the farming skill.

The major complication here would be that the game would need to recognize rivers as a resource (like stone for example) that would be required to either set up a camping fishing pole or a net building.

All in all I think this would fit into the game quite well and even add to the 'survival' aspect of the early game, and, of course, more options=better.

yes agree with all you say... the particulars of how it works are not my concern, just the ability to do so. and game balance will play a role in the mechanics as much or more so than reality. but again, I am not too concerned on the details I just wish we could fish, and gather food in the wild, other than trying to hunt the more dangerous critters. As while 1 goat or 1 bull at a time is not a big deal a herd of them can trash a starting squad of 12 people without too much trouble.

Fishing has already been requested.

I'm patiently waiting with a string on my toe for it.

With the fish showing up in the stores I was getting really excited.

Agree that fishing should be in the game, there are already vendors selling fish and villages have fishing equipment set up. Recipes for sushi and other fish-based dishes could be added for flavor. Think every food item except for ration packs and fish can be crafted by the player right now.

Fishing could affect balance. In the early game it would probably be easier to catch a fish than it would be to defeat a pack of animals without hiding behind the guards. Fish sell for relatively high prices and many fish fit in a backpack. This would provide an alternative to early game iron and copper mining. In the late game, fishing could be an alternative to hydroponics for coastal areas with zero fertility. Fishing would explain how villagers could live in places like Dreg without becoming cannibals.

Yes, that would be incredible. And in fact, i think it would be fairly easy to implement. I remember there was nicely-concepted game on Steam, called Towns, and fishing there could've been performed simply by building a special "chair and rod" building near water, and assigning a townee to work on it.

So, the idea is that we have a production station, functionally similar to stove or farm, that looks like fishing equipment of sorts, which should be placed very close to the water, somewhat like farms but with very high demands for water percentage, that requires one operator, and produces raw fish over time. Maybe, to speed fishing up it could use a small amount of foul meat or bread or even another fish as a raw material, i.e. "the bait". It could also be portable, just like sleeping bag. That should definitely go under some low priority tab :)

There is already a great little fishing Mod out there. Works great, build a pole sit and fish. Then hang them on the rack to dry.
Awsome.
