Hi, good evening!
While im enjoyin kenshi game-play, one thing makes it completely out of balance.
Whenever any fraction is going to attack your fort, u just can walk away with all your farmers and wait a while till the bandits/crusaders/ninjas would just enter the place and then JUST WALK AWAY.

Well, they ll steal some bread and iron ores, maybe,

but thats completely not what would make me be motivated keepin the forts guarded . That allows you to ignore all the dangers and to send your army to wherever you want. and to feel no pain from anyhow powerful raid attack.
this exploit gives you too big advantage - and ruins the fun.
soo... may be it is any mod which allows enemies to ruin, or mb seriously damage the settlements? if not - it must be created anyway for the greater good
sry for my clunky english)

something like this was originally planned but later dropped by the Dev.
it could come back in Kenshi 2 though.

I agree Sunday.
I think if the raiders are on the way to your fort they should ransack it regardless. If they have already been dispatched then you can make a decision to run and hide or stand and fight. Both have risks and rewards.
But if you are not at your fort then just like now the system shouldn't send someone there while you are away.
Also fogmen and cannibals need to go back to the previous AI of when they pick someone up they run away with them. That made it much tougher when they would raid you. Not the pick someone up and try and fight some more. Which only makes them easy to kill and save your friend.

Maybe a more opportunist AI that will settle in the settlement and slowly "transform" it to their own faction. A more faction specific building system and a "growth" system of settlement spots would be amazing. Imagine your settlement being raided by some kind of ninjas, forcing you to flee with what ever is left alive. Later you return with a larger force only to discover that some of the settlement have been broken down and reconstructed in the ninja fashion, and the inhabitants in the settlement have multiplied. So you draw back again only to wait for the right opportunity to attack. Maybe the cannibals attack the settlement in great numbers, leaving few left alive after the raid, making a perfect opportunity for you to strike and take back your own land. As before I realize the severity of implementing something like this, but it would expand the game play in the empire building direction rather than the RPG, not neglecting the later I think it would improve replayability which is thoroughly sough after.

When you can walk into a settlement, there is buildings that are ruined that you can buy cheaper and renovate.
Why can't raiding parties come in, steal food and turn the buildings into ruins?
You have to rebuild ruins, everything inside the ruins is lost and has to be rebuilt.
This gives you incentive to be wise about where you set up and whether you can defend it?
This same mechanic should be viable to waring factions occupying major cities that the defenders will try and retake.
