I've been playing on and off but not posting for some time.
I got back into Kenshi yesterday, and things are looking good.
The things I consider would be a nice addition for future are as follows.
Horses and other mounts/beasts (perhaps even with mounted combat at some point).
Even though one could argue against it on a number of points, it would create more depth.
Various beasts will be implemented for sure and they will all serve to give a more varied experience.
Horses no longer fit for labor or war, could always be processed for meat (slaughterhouse?).
I for one would not mind encountering predators as well on my travels. The run or die kind.
Spears, simple to make and deadly effective if used in groups.
Spears are a great way to hunt both men and beasts.
Crafting as often stated, would also serve to bring enormous depth and enjoyment.
Preferably of some depth. Having men slave away gathering materials for armor and weapon crafting would be neat. Having a somewhat realistic process for creating blades for example is just one of many interesting although time consuming thing to implement. Refining ore, different smiting techniques; a good blade would not only depend on skill, but also how much effort a person would put in each step. So there would be a difference between that churned out to the masses, and those few blades with their own name. Added to that, weapon breakage would also be pretty spot on. Mending is of course a part of it, but the added danger of weapons being broken in combat would give all the more sense to carrying two or more.
Finally, some form of cloud system, meaning that player created content, items, powerful player characters with or without their own faction could be transferred between single player games (randomly). To add challenge to established in game veterans, if they chose to play a sp game with such a setting. Such a setting should of course also be available for activation at any amount of in game hours. Being king of the wasteland is only fun if someone is plotting to kill you.
What better than an ai driven, random-name player made threat?
If it is not possible to share content in such a way, then perhaps large clans/war-bands can be introduced/spawned at the edge of the map. There are bound to be other cities and lands beyond the edge of the map.
