Keep Factions Restart Option

I was wondering with the last update (and the introduction of methods to start a new game) if there would be a way to restart the game as a new character, but it keeps everything else the same - including your previous faction and any buildings they may have built or missions that they'd run?
It could be a great way to keep a game world replayable as if your faction achieved world domination, or ended in a bitter war with another faction, you could start a game with a new faction, but your old faction would still exist in your game world, with all the previous characters you'd trained, making it a challenge to take on your former team and taking their base / farms / towns for your newer faction.
What do people think?

I like it. Just thinking about making an awesome death squad that dominates everyone and then end up having to fight them later (or hearing rumors about them) would be pretty fun.
Kind of like in Dwarf fortress: Each time you play on the same map, you add to it. So you can end up visiting the ruins of your lost dwarf empire from a previous game with a chara in adventure mode, really nice.

That's what I thought. It would be cool to create a faction and then, if they get boring or you fancy a change, you could restart the game and keep them in there, and they would start like any other faction would.
This could also allow you to deliberately train factions (if you want to) to achieve certain stuff. Your example could be quite fun - training a small group of elite units, reset the game and start anew, only now there is this small group of elite warriors who can choose to fight or befriend your new faction.
Also, if lots of bases are set up, it gives players the ability to really make their world their own, as factions falls, bases could become derelict and your first ever factions base could just remain either a ruin or the foundation for a new town.

I would like to see that, once the ability to make a self sustaining city/faction was available. Currently, it seems like your faction would be rather lifeless compared to the other extant factions. Once proceedurally generated bounty quests, faction wars, and the like are implemented this would be an amazing feature. The ability to sort of have your cake, and eat it too. Your hard work on a previous faction wouldn't have to go to waste once you decide to make a new game, they might continue their war against the Holy Empire, and the Holy Empire might even assign you a quest to bring back your old character. Once all of that is possible the emergent gameplay potential is well worth whatever it would take to make that happen. I like the idea, even if this isn't quite the right time for it.

Oh god yeah - this idea is for quite a way down the line (maybe even post 1.0, whenever that is) but I thought it would be worth mentioning since people who've seen it would remember. Besides most of the ideas in these threads are quite some way off implementation if they're ever considered.

Talking over ideas comes before implementing them anyway. Some games takes months/years of talking and preparation before even a single line is written
I like this more and more:
Adding city after city through the different games would be fun

the game would change from a "go outside off the city for adventure" to a megapolis that englobes the whole map with constant "civil war"
Or enslaving the whole world (despotism), after which you would like to start a new game, in which you are the one that will entice the rebellion against the "bad" regime

This suddenly seems even more awesome than I had previously imagined it.
+1

Bumping this thread because...
+1 to Import "Region" option to allow the ability to start a new game in a previously existing world (thus allowing for multiple playthroughs of a constantly growing/evolving world)

I have nothing to really add to this currently but I wanted to post my support for this idea.

Happened to me before as well, where the base ended up becoming part of the world to be generated on new game. Powerful equipment and gear at the start and at no cost once found. Then again, I'd rather fight for the reward unless abandoned somewhere remote.

Dude! Having to fight your own creations,(maybe even your old original character) Would be insane! Maybe you hop on and get a bounty mission for one of your old characters. (possibly one that is mastered out in everything XD glhf lol)
It would add to the sense that you mold the story of the world how you want it to.

This sounds like something that would be great to see, but maybe more as a mod-generating tool than as a play-start option. By doing it as a mod (once building information is given a place in the mod files, if it hasn't gotten one already) we'd be able to share our exported squads and include as many old squads as we want, rather than just one or all previous saves (and since I often have multiple saves for each squad, using all previous saves would cause some pretty bad conflicts). Plus, the exporter tool could have options for how your squads act, like whether they're aggressive, whether they trade, and maybe even an ability to convert outposts into functional towns (as in, with guards, citizens, traders, etc.).
