Wouldn't it be cool if you added other things to be afraid of at night for your fort? Maybe make reasons to seek shelter besides roaming bandits?

Even in the real world you don't go out at night for a thousand different superstitious reasons. So why not give the player some otherwordly challenges that could be toggled on?

1. Mutants - Post fall beasts, lab experiments that can infect people with disease or mutation.

2. Dire Wolves - Just mutated wolves that hunt people at night, carry away wounded, and eat them!

3. Bears - Bears.

4. The Prime - Super infected that look normal but are not, they aren't stupid either and only show themselves at night, maybe dedicate a whole area of the map to them where they control everything (like the north *wink*) Maybe make it a "Zone" type place.

5. Rad Bears - Bears, with radiation. Or Disease.

6. Sand Lions - Large insects that eat people.

7. Man Eating Camels - Yeah.

Alright thats it for now, but I got more. Other things that could attack during the day are

1. Clockwork men.

2. Djinn - Magic Users that can't be killed unless you trap them in a special box or something.

3. Cannibal mutants.

4. Man Eating Plants!

That's it for now!

What s with all the mutants xD. (it s nor an insult or saying is stupid, jst curious as most stuff you have there are mutant based)

2. Djinn - Magic Users that can't be killed unless you trap them in a special box or something. Forget magic, if you read the faq you know.

I agree with the fear on night, there is other topico n about it, with "regular stuff" not sure how to place t in the way i want, but i think to go with so much mutants might go odd hand when you do nt know much off the game lore.

The challenges don't necessarily have to be big, beefy, face-mangling creatures to make it a good idea to camp at night. You could have sandstorms in the open desert, or swarms of diseased mosquitoes in the swamp, etc.

These might be different encounters that either deal damage over time or have a chance to deal damage/cause some sort of debuff on your characters, unless their survival skill (once it's implemented) is high enough to mitigate this effect. If my characters' chance to hit is cut in half in a sandstorm, I'm going to be stopping for the night.

Yep, why place things like that, when nature iteslf is a danger already if you not prepared, Sometimes the simple cold of the night desert might leave you unprepared the next day for a fight and as said there, debuff your char. Or even at night, is when most likely bandits to strike, they might ued to the night (and more prepared) than you, especailly if you visiting a new place you never been before.

Well you can always suggest that in your own thread.

I want beasts in the night.

I wasn't saying, "Screw beasts, I hate their smelly mangy fur." I actually like their smelly, mangy fur...

Moving on from that, I just mean if the goal is to make the night a dangerous place to traverse, there are ways to do that in addition to big mean beefy face-eating hounds of doom. For example, if you had ravenous flesh-eating llamas attack during a nocturnal sandstorm, your visibility might be so bad that you have a party wipe, or at least a really rough fight on your hands.

With environmental factors compounding the threat-level of animals, campsites start sounding really good at night.

You agred with maybe the only part we can say 100% will not be present xD.

Is this a fantasy game then?

You can think of it as one, but it is an original world, there are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. You wont find goblins, elves, dragons, knights or wizards. There is no magic in the game either, just blood sweat and metal. Combat is mostly sword-based, with a certain samurai / ninja influence. Thats all I will say for now.

Im guessing this guy is right. Also there is going to be animals at some point from my understanding and other dangers that aren't just people, not sure if time of day will have an effect on spawns or not but it might be cool if more dangerous things were present at night, give you a reason to act differently, though nothing is catching my people, i've played a bit and most of my guys have max athletics.

To be fair, we did just get what look to be dwarves and half-giants in the game. However, if the goal is to just make people afraid of the night, then what you need isn't mythical beasts, but rather the threat of mythical beasts.
People tell tall tales all the time, stuff like "past midnight don't walk along the shore, lest you wish to hear the banshee roar". What we need mostly are just rumors, like people talking about how Dead Cat kidnaps Nekuman who leave their village at night, etc. Hell you could even have some of the mythical beast rumors be explainable by a faction's or bandit group's actions. Like finding out the endless wolf howling near Clownsteady was actually a hidden group of savage bandits.

Seems 80% of you posts end up with nekumans  .

But with reading that got into my mind, tales of the beasts and so, bandits at nigh, those could try intimidate the men with simply awkward noises, ones told from such stories, diminishing their morale to an easy fight or make them run for an easy loot, they could even be the ones to start the rumors to then use in their favor.

Of couse we would have then a Shaggy and Selma to go unmask the truth  , tho in some cases, despite the extra things no mask could be removed *points above*.

Man, I see so many good ideas in this thread. I almost feel like it might need to be expanded into another thread.

On the topic of Night Creatures, I would have to say encountering an NPC that is anything other than human would be outright fantastic, especially since we did just gain access to Nords and Dwarves

xD
