For a new building, why not a green house? Perhaps make it the next research after outpost iv, and give it the same outside appearance. It could be a type of automated farm that grows different types crops as well.

Thoughts guys?

i find it believable, that in a world, were they have "discovered" the means to automize some of their ressource gathering, they would strive to achieve the same for all their ressources.

on the other hand, there will be "slaves" who are going to be the workforce instead of the squad members. both achieve the same thing in the end but you might as well let each player decide, what's compatible with his playstyle :)

but if the ai factions are able to kill/free your workers, they should be able to destroy your (automated) famrs/mines etc. aswell.

One thing to point out, as more biomes are added, a source of food in hostile environments will be needed. Also, it would allow bases away from farm land to be more survivable. So if you found good stone and iron deposits, but no farmland, you can build a green house to survive better.

I love this idea! Might also become handy as things like weather start cropping up. Perhaps a sandstorm would demolish your crops, but if they are protected in a greenhouse they might be fine, yeah?
