It is hard to see the white text over the bright sand for a large portion of the day. Requesting a more contrasting color for the names, so they dont blend in with the terrain.

was just thinking about this idea when i remembered a post on my facebook page.
What two colors show up no matter what color background or environment?

Black Borders and white interiors for the lettering.
tried to find the picture of it, but its lost some place in my general history part of my FB page.

I can't believe I'm making this comparison after all I say about how Kenahi's more like X-COM, but you could always take the Mount and Blade approach to fixing this. In M&B, the crosair is white, unless you're in a snowy area, then it turns orange. Granted M&B had the benefit of loading specific maps when doing this, but I'm sure some sort of transparency layer could be created for the names, so that the whiter the areas around it, the more orange they appear, or something. Or alternatively, you could make like a mid 00's fps, and just let the player choose the color themselves.

With the capability of turning char names on and off, I think it would be safer to just add a box background with outline to char names.
Not too opaque, mind you. :P

Ah, sorta like Torchlight 2's boxes around text popups? That might be too distracting with it on all the time though. (I know you can disable it, but for the most part players will need it on, especially the if they start equipping their squad with matching uniforms.)

The backgrounds the names used to have would suffice until the GUI re-skin occurs.
