since diplomacy is a part of the game here is how you could expand it:

For cannibals specifically, if you are carrying a person, and come across a group of cannibals that move in to attack, you could offer the person you are carrying to the cannibals. As a result they take the person from you (like police chiefs do with bounties), they like you a little more and the group you interacted with ( by group i mean the squad of hostile cannibals) become peaceful and will not initiate combat with you.
The benefits of this are that it would be at least a slightly more effective way to get "diplomacy points" (i think that it should give at least a couple more than healing an enemy) and you would be able to survive a potentially deadly encounter ( but for obvious reasons offering them a cannibal wouldn't work)

It would also perhaps be a good idea to have the squad immediately travel to the nearest cannibal outpost or location on the map, so the player couldn't just follow them round using them to kill enemies and scavenge the defeated foes' weapons

i suppose it would work for bandits etc to keep them as hostages for ransom as well, but it wouldnt make sense if they just accepted any old nobody, i think they would be picky and only accept individuals with bounties or people of importance in cities.

Please let me know what you think about the idea and expand upon it. also let me know if i've done anything wrong since im new to the forum

I think some of this is on the Roadmap currently listed as:
Capture and imprisonment by law enforcement, slavers, cannibals, bandits etc.  Ability to ransom, trade for or rescue captured characters and NPCs.

It would be cool to exchange prisoners in the field, too. Perhaps giving Cannibals a body in the field could also fall under the category of "random encounters".

How about just giving gifts to anyone, regardless if it improve relations. (Granted relation improvement would be good too) I know a lot of patrolling police units that run out of bandages. I should be able to stock them up or give them a much better sword without having to cut them down first and loot their unconscious person. It's a win/win for all involved.

i don't know if all units of npcs that are spawned remain in the game indefinitely, in fact it seems that if i am in a town and save the game and exit, upon loading that save, all npcs that were in buildings appear in the streets and immediately run to their respective buildings.

is there anyone that knows more about the npc coding that could help explain it to me?
