Robotics skill;
How about adding Automatas, Drones, Battledroids? uncontrollable squad members you can give commands, like using turrets, mining, murdering innocents, manufacturing indefinitely your needs, as you gather your party members and do whatever you desire?

Drones could be used for trading, basic robotics, it could be expanded to have other functions, property-alarm, faster than leg it all the way from catan to fort simion, tracking drones could be used to find criminals and pinpoint on the map the ones with high bounty, adjustable.

Cargobots could carry players inventory, have a nice painting, but pretty basic robot.

Automatas could be your do-it-all humanoid robot, ordered to mine, farm, operate machinery and craft bulks on demand, and also look nice with paints and custom parts and functions, commanded to repair other robots, repair the base

Obviously the Battledroids could be used for combat, commanded to operate turrets, to patrol properties and perimeters on Player cities/fortresses, killer droids told to hunt criminals with bounties and kill assassination contracts.

All robots could be run by batteries and mantained by parts, upgraded by components and function chips, when destroyed, engineers could strip their parts to make then unable to be repaired by npcs, making them less of a problem in case you go against battledroids, drones could be operated by relay antennas built at cities or houses to allow a certain distance to be travelled without running out of battery and allow movement tracking of the unit, npcs could also take advantage of this, but the cost of robots, mantainance could be considerably high, so as long you can mantain them, you're set, this could bring up new enemy bands of malfuctioning automatas, frenzied battledroids, zapper drones

A few off-topic ideas:
The cities by the way.. are so unclean, how could they survive? it's not like everyone dines and drinks all their cats at the local Saloons, I've seen fisher and it had personality, a farm-town, I know it's earlier to pretend, but what if all towns had a personality? like Brink being a Industrial city, developing technologies, or Catan being a city of sin, full of Gambling/Brothels, run by local criminal authorities, which would also bring a very interesting feature of becoming a crimelord, extorting shops, creating rackets that can be supplied with narcotics, running Assassin's guilds and have npcs come in and ask favors and create contracts, a sort of Player Reputation system.

Above text-wall is just an extract of a Bug, report, I know, I shouldn't have brainstormed in the bug-squashing forum.

It can be viewed here:

A few edits here and there to make it readable.

I'm sorry for all the hassle.

I like how you gave them a little less then 2 days to work on this. Posted on dec 30th with the new year coming in and naming the topic 2014.

Funny, very funny. I'm Laughing :|

No, I didn't set this as a time based feature request, it was the timeline of which I had this presentation idea based on what they want to see and Forum behaviour especifics, I didn't give them "days" to work on this, also I'm sure my idea is good xD

But it's up to the development to see if it fits Kenshi, to see if this would be a good part, I assume yes, because, who would want such features? in Kenshi you can be a shop-owner who also happens to be a supplier and manufectorer of sorts.

I get so angry when I micromanage all day my assets, I'm neat, I must have OCD because I cannot place mines inside my forts and just forget workers on it, IT MUST BE PLACED outside to feel nice..

You can imagine what happens right? a whole day of work, just to have some Dust bandit extorters come and kill all my workers because my trader and half my guards are away on missions, so I thought, why not leave all the labour to Slaves/Robots? it would be fun, with a nice slave unrest for slaves, such as slaves taking up arms against you, or Robots malfuction.

It could be a well-thought solution for a good chunk of Kenshi, which is micromanagement/crafting
whilst also forging a new powerful faction, based on slaves or robotic army/workers.

Kinda reminds me of Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Mr. House (Robots Based), Caesar's Legion (Slave based), of course, Slaves and Robots are non-controlled faction members you can command, a lot can be worked on this, as Kenshi NPC/AI behavior goes, I like how you can be a single person, and then evolve to a faction, army, reminds me of Militarized Guilds, Mercenary Groups, Warhammer 40k Chapters and real world Knightly orders, in that sense :geek:

There are several ways on how robotics could work in Kenshi, this is an old presentation, I might come with something better soon, somewhat illustrated for better idealization of the schema.

Thank you.

The mines become automated at max level. I guess the farm could use slaves. Everything else is placed inside the buildings or just outside.

To me the slaves make sense, you have to take care of em, or just feed em scraps of food or wood shavings for all I care. But drones are kinda "broken" you just need one guy to make a drone and then he could make 1 million of them. With slaves you need to find then, watch over them, protect them, feed them and replacing them would take effort, not just making a drone make a drone.

Indeed, slaves need to be taken care, such as having a place to sleep, eat, maybe create a "Slave Pen" for them so you can store them after a day's work, this is where Robotics might get interesting, what if, all humanoid had needs that need to be looked after? such as hunger, tiredness/fatigue, maybe entertainment, but i'll stop here or it will step on sims foot.

Machines need nothin, only maintenance or battery, drones could be faster than normal humanoids, and can be used to trade as they can carry backpacks of goods, but I understand, now Automatas, battledroids, they have their functions, as well other robotic units, we'll have see what we'll get, but though I suspect we might have something like this on robots, tireless warriors, workers, ever loyal that can malfunction depending on creator's skill.

Slaves place no loyalty in you, you hate the man you fear, they would soon pick up arms against you than work forever, or escape in the first bandit raid.

In the end it falls on player choice actually, do you have a band of strong warriors whose presence impose strength and fear, which makes all slaves obedient? or are you a clever scientist that programmed countless machines, sold them for profit and then moved on and started a powerful new faction using your mechanical friends?

There is such a high level of design in Kenshi, I truly hope it will grow further, and I will donate whenever I can to see it prosper more, I'm curious, and curiosity is dangerous I'm told, I'm sure we will get nice things to work with later.

On a playthrough I played as the warrior who got the legendary sword, it's a hard beginning but I managed to make through by looting battlefields, bought myself few places in the city of Brink, constructed a Research Machine, 1 char alone, although they make it easier to recruit all sorts of grunts, I would still prefer researching robotics in order to learn how to create robots based on my skill and time spent improving it and then benefitting from a constant improvement, I'm writing about a new market here, you can create robots, but also sell them for a higher profit depending on a numerous factors, skill, parts, function, A.I chip, I have perused other topics as well that robotics might be used to create implants, that's so cool 8-)

I like your idea. and with the idea of severing limbs that he wants to make. also implies replacement limbs. so robotics could fit very well. and they vary from ones that run off the nearby generators. or batteries. etc. its interesting and unique. and it gives you a choice between paid labor. expensive robots. or cheap but low morale slaves. i like it. and i support it. i think this could go into kenshi.

On the robotic limbs part, it should have penalties somewhat, otherwise people would just use the replacements all the time, it's kinda gross though, considering how easily you can get chop in the beginning, benefits, but also penalties, you could get benefits such as kinect fist, but it could deteorize your health, or make you slower, leg implants could make you faster, or gain more weight, also some healing implant that heals you slowly, very expensive, but worth it? only blood though, so you won't die so fast, unless Black Knight mode activate, lol, they should add hazard/radioation enviroments, it would be so fun to settle near a radiated areas and study it, construct a Radiation-run power plant, to power all the Robots.

Thanks for your support, I appreciate it.

There is limitless potential. lets just see what chris comes up with. This would be a good mod though. if nothing else.

Pretty much doable too I'd say that much, when Tamed Animal AI comes online on the feature list, we could put our expectations on such features to happen, not saying robotics is going to be such a grandeur thing on Kenshi, for surely, there is such a plethora, a loveable lore gaining life.

Tis not rocket science amirite,
Automatas can be assigned to things, left click/Commands:/Mining/Stone Mine, Iron mine/Commands;/Farming. The list goes, as for Battledroids, it could be Patrol beacons players can place, a route, where the robots will be assigned, like a circular patrol route around your Laboratory cities/factories, that safe outpost between Catan and Brink you need to resupply, repair your guardians that help you from that 4 platoons of hungry bandits you encountered, Robotics is top tech, expensive, you'll need resources and much skill.

As for slavery, so simple, but it could also be expanded, such as making gladiators, there will be an Arena system in Kenshi, I daresay, train the meat, cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

Slaves could have the same command system as robots, but more a human(say what) touch to the system, assign slavepen so slaves have a place to sleep at night, or run when you're under attack, feed them to keep morale up so they won't rise against you or try to escape, less expansive, but you can imagine the drawbacks, actually, it would be realistic for them to rise against you and take over your properties, take over your operations and then, send warriors to attack you for slaving them, and you'd have to take back everything and deal with them. Cool story.
