I have just under 200 hours logged so far in this amazing game and I was so excited to see that you had included this in the latest patch. This excitement was quickly replaced with disappointment. Having them crossed on you back is boring. If you cant make them look like this
please try and make them look like this
because this makes me sad
The more I thought about it, the weapon 1 slot is the back placement, enabling wider or longer weapons to be carried. Weapon 2 slot is the hip, reasonable that something longer than a katana would start messing with the wielder's drawing motion and positioning at some point. Dual wielding is not there, yet I may agree that placement can be irksome with certain weapons. The nodachi and the topper (or weapons longer than katana) are more reasonable weapons to be placed in a fashion.
When it comes to sheathing swords in a cross fashion, it can be up to the wielder, as there are weapons sheathed parallel to each other, drawn in the same side, and weapons sheathed perpendicular to each other, drawn on either side. On option in character creation would satisfy those two dilemmas, though...
I would be intrigued how the wakizashi and ninja swords are placed, if some there's a code placed that the orientations of the sheathed weapons are determined on the grounds if the slot size they occupy is in a certain size range.
Way of the Samurai, Monster Hunter, etc. had interesting things. Way of the Samurai got a bit ridiculous in some games, where you can choose a nodachi/tachi-length blade for the custom sword and designate it for the ninja sword style and wield it like it is nothing... and got more so when going dual ninja sword style... all for blade reach.

i hope the Clipping gets fixed too >.> though i usually view a Katana as being more on the side an shorter swords on the back since well o.O having attempted to draw swords from both positions i find >.> that its quite annoying to draw a sword thats longer than your arm
but shorter swords tend to allow you to draw faster and don't require as much movement to draw them i think the length of the sword, and the position of it, an your characters arm length should effect draw speed. which effects combat.
but i think the Ninjato looks better on the back ^.^ there shorter an don't clip as much. hopefully we do eventually get dual wielding though. also hope the other slot means they'll switch styles as needed.

A small detail that'd be interesting to worry about when the games foundations are laid no doubt!
Another thing that could be addressed in this regard, the larger weapons shouldn't really be able to be drawn from the back.
