Games have business being whatever they want to be. If someone wants to make a game that attempts to have realistic physical differences between men and women they should damn well do it and not be scared about offending a bunch of ignorant people. Unless they're trying to make a mainstream blockbuster, in which case they better not piss off ignorant people or they'll lose the majority of their profits.

Well, since we're necrofying this topic, I'll go ahead and throw in my 2 cents on it. :P

I think it might be interesting if men have about a 10% increased growth rate in physical stats and women get a 10% boost to mental growth. This would make for a slight difference for the hardcore players who like to strategize their character growth down to the last detail, but not create a powerful enough gap to restrict players otherwise.

It would be a realistic touch, too, since it is true that men do develop physical attributes faster than women who develop mental attributes better, irl.

That explains all the female programmers and engineers I see every day. Chattin' me up and stuff.

Lol, I didn't mean to say that all women are smarter and all men are stronger (being a male geek, it'd be just a tad hypocritical of me to state that, anyway). Just saying that, physically, those are the advantages to each gender. It has to do with hormones and such.

tbh, i think it would be most balanced to include it in random population generation. since you presumably get to tweak your main charecter's stats, you could make whatever changes you felt at the beginning, and since the difference is more down to the average and statistical elements, maybe it should have a difference when charecters are generated. like world generation, and when new npc's are born.

that way you could apply assumptions and guesses to tactical situations which may or may not be correct, based on statistical elements. could be fun
