Hi all,
So I'm in the middle of trying to figure out a seriously kickass description for Kenshi. I could really use your valuable feedback for a bit of wee research through some fresh eyes!
So, what is your favorite feature/ aspect of Kenshi? What appeals to you the most about the game?
Thanking you in advance ^^
Favourite feature?
One of my favorite aspects of the game is any new player's first 10 minutes. Where Kenshi shatters the expectations the player has gained from playing other games by making them realize: taking a character with no equipment, training, or experience, and using them to try to fight an entire group of people, who murder others for a living, is actually a really bad idea. (But its probably best not to advertise this, as doing so might prevent it from happening.)I like the way that the main theme of kenshi can be some up with a quote from Planescape: Torment, "Endure. In enduring grow stronger." Seriously, the difficulty and "you are not special" combine to make a very challenging game where the player will set their own personal goals.
I like the different styles of play afforded by the many mechanics. Whatever the player wants to become, they CAN become through enough effort and hard work. Building your own town, a place to call your own, and having to defend it, is a great draw to the game. I like the way that everyone you control is named and created, truly assisting in bringing the characters of each player's story to life. The character creator is really good at creating many unique and carried characters. Because everyone is an individual, players cannot help but to feel attached to their characters, making it that much more devastating when a character dies.
I like the aesthetic of the game. The lonely ambience of the music, the vast mostly unpopulated landscapes, the slapped together "just trying to survive" roughness of the settlements... it all serves to push a specific atmosphere that really pulls you into the game. The art assets are also very good, combining many cultures to form unique armors and weapons.
The combat is simple to control and adjust your tactics, but always exciting to watch. The in-depth complexity given to the finest details (for example the medical system) really helps the game stand out.
And also the development team for the game are really friendly and helpful!

Wow, thank you so much Tolwrath! This is seriously helpful and so in depth!Tolwrath wrote:One of my favorite aspects of the game is any new player's first 10 minutes. would have to agree with Tolwrath
that pretty much sums up my view of the game, and i like how the game treats you like you are not special. including the music. how it plays along with no care that you're getting the stuffing beat out of you.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.

My favorite feature would probably be the in-game editor and the forgotten construction set.
To be honest, I've probably spent more time tinkering around in that construction set then the actual game, and I've logged at least 100+ hours of playtime. (It actually doesn't record the hours if you start the game without steam booted up.)
So far I've been able to cover the entire desert biome with buildings and have them all spawn nasty variants of enemies that I've edited into the game. Unfortunately this has made my game crash multiple times due to the sheer number of characters that have spawned and waged an all-out war against whoever they see. So. Many. Corpses. The resulting ten way brawl with over 1000+ fighting characters was totally worth it though. Now I just wish I could tape it. Hell, I wish I could at least take screens.
Maybe in one of the other updates.

I really enjoy the process of making settlements and equipment. You don't just plop down a building, you need to have the materials to build it with. You don't just make things out of thin air, you have to get base and sometimes intermediate materials and then you can make something. With prospecting, this becomes an even more interesting process as you often can't do it all from one location.
Lately, I'm also getting back into the combat. Once my base has made all the weapons and armor I need, it's fun to take a full squad out on a bandit/cannibal hunt. I'm considering starting a war with an established faction, but choosing which one is tricky (also a wonderful aspect, it's not as simple as many games make it).

Personally, my favorite feature is the indepth complicated system that works on its own. You have ALL these stats, but they go up naturally as the game progress. The skill gain is slow, but constant. You don't need to think about it, just work towards your goal and it comes with it. To get a better fighter, just fight, you need only think about which weapon to boost which area of expertise to go.
Basically, I love how the game throws you into it as just another number, getting pounded by groups because that's how it works BUT you can make yourself into a super human with time and dedication with skills and equipment. The fact you can reach that peak is what really makes it enjoyable. An army of bandits can raid my town, knock out each of my guys, and then when my boss-man gets back, with a limp and a bad arm - he leaves a trail of bodies behind. That kinda - you can't reach it, but you really can, way of progression is what makes the game fun.
From Vagrant to Martial Master - I can achieve it if I put my mind to it.
Other than that, the total freedom is great. So many ways to go about things. I normally start as rock bottom, but recently I started playing Captain, to save time and enjoy the extra difficulty of fighting the Holy Nation. It's so much fun fighting them alongside the United Cities. It feels like I'm important to the UC, as help my guys and heal them after a fight. Feels like I'm fighting a war alongside them. I should "capture" some UC guys and capture some bandits and Paladins and train up the UC and release back at the nearby outpost - CAUSE I CAN!
Since you're looking for some descriptives, I guess you can call my favorite feature thus - A rediculous amount of challenge, but the ability to rise above the challenge and build your own strength.

Hmm definitely one of the most common favourites seem to be the harsh thrashings and insignificance starting out! Makes good progress taste all the more sweet...
Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, it's really helped loads. Think I got it in the bag now

Better late than never!
The harsh start was an entertaining, yet fleeting, appeal. The base-building has been a far more lasting draw, creating an Escobar-ian utopia in the wasteland, turning desert into vast, verdant hemp farms and smuggling narcotics in the hollower cavities of dead bandit leaders and ninja jounin (because no one searches the anus' of the dead). We're just a happy colony of do-goodin' bounty hunters, nothing to see here...

Yup this game is harsh. Even when you got a well equiped and trained squad, if you got caught and surrounded in a hostile territory like the cannibals, it'll be a nightmare to fight your way out. No such thing as an easy level up....everything is a real deadly struggle for survival. My squad was entirely injured, had to rotate the fighters while the rest kept busy healing, lucky no one lost their limbs.
Right now not playing much...reinstalled it using steam since most of my friends are on that system and patiently waiting for the new update...maybe this isn't the best place to ask but I've been away for a while...could anyone update me on solo playing? Are there any new changes that make it possible to play a solo character without ending up dead/coma in the desert with no chance of recovering?

nope
there hasn't been any changes to that.
its basically knowledge of the game that lets you do solo with relative ease.
