Everyone thinks Kenshi is set in a post apocalyptic world... I may have missed it, but where did Chris explain the setting?
You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Swords that are named katana's. Since that is a whole class and probably the one most people are familiar with (and my favourite type).txfirefighter wrote:
why does everyone think its japanese? he clearly states its not
Still, its only a single class. I personally am looking forward to unarmed and hoping there is some nice animation to go with it; maybe some emphasis on lighter armour too.
pie
here's the only thing I remember, an faq from chris:
"Its set in Japan!"
It is not set in japan.
"Where/when is it set?"
I'm not telling you.

Low tech of course
.
I think weapon variation would do wonders. Especially if other races(ethnicities) are added.
Primitive cannibals with falcata and kopis type swords(hacking, cleaver like) wearing leather at best. What kind of leather? Take a guess.
Raiders wearing cloth or scaled armor using scimitars, sabers, or maybe makhaira. Maybe a Chinese dao. Something fast that can slice through unarmored opponents like caravan civilians or poor grade guards.
European longswords, sabers, claymores maybe rapiers(wandering duelists maybe) could be thrown into the more professional mix along with all the great weapons we already have. No reason the professionals couldn't use any of the above weapons as well.
Spears would be an interesting thought though animating them to fit in and compete with so many slashing weapons might be hard. Especially considering their strength is in formations. A good spearman can be a deadly opponent however. Really the most underrated weapon of history considering how much use it saw.
Pikes, maces, morningstars and such are a bit more questionable. Those only came about because of really tough armors like plate though there are already more blunt weapons I think.
Lighter variants of the rapier are out of the question I'd say. Things like the foil aren't the kind of weapons for serious battles I think. The only reason I suggest a rapier is it's much more robust and versatile.
Archery or at least throwing weapon is already coming I think.
And there are so many more.
Jian sword, Kopesh, gladius/spatha, viking style sword(big spatha), arming swords, among others.
Axes of the many types.
Polearms like the Glaive, Naginata, Yari, Bardiche, Guan Dao, Ji, Woldo.

Well, we already have the aztec fragment axe. Could throw in some more weapons from that region. Like this, one handed one: http://www.aztec-history.com/images/maquahuitl.gif

of course, with more western style weaponry there will be the need for more western style armor. like quilted and padded and scale and chain (already have chain mail shirts)
would add a lot of variety to looks (which is about it since there are no magic properties)
