Well, keep in mind, Wolf, the game is FAR from a completed product. If you're looking for a game you can sit back and enjoy as is, you're not really missing much (no offense, Chris). The main reason for playing the game in its current state is to get a little preview (very little preview) and to help with the bug-testing and help come up with opinions and ideas.
If you're not really into bug-testing and such, then waiting may be the better option for you, anyway.
However, if you still want to try, here's what to do:
Take the two files you downloaded from this site and place them in a new folder. (a folder with NOTHING else in it, yet, if you need instructions on how to create a new folder, simply ask, here).
Move both of those files you downloaded into that folder.
Then, drag a box over both folders so that they're both selected and right-click on one of them. In the little menu that comes up, you'll see "7Zip" in the list of options (if you downloaded and installed 7zip as per Chris's instructions).
Hovering the mouse over 7zip will reveal a few other options. Click on the one that says "extract here". This will extract a series of files out of those two, one of which is "Kenshi.exe" which is the file for running the game.

It'd be especially awesome if you could make it an option for people who want to be able to micro manage to do so, but I suppose if you're going the increase by use route that wouldn't really be an option. There'll be trainers though so you learn how to heal before your guy is bleeding to death all over the ground and you can't stop it fast enough right?Chris wrote:No, I will definately reduce micro managing, probably make skills level with use instead of manual

What might be interesting is if you could create a hybrid system of points and leveling through use. Like, every use of a skill or something gives xp, depending on the situation and such, and it also gives a slight boost to the skill (after so many uses, of course).

There will be one tag skill that you can change, and that skill will siphon-off xp from the other skills so you can improve it when not using it, like 10-20% or so

That sounds like a pretty awesome idea. Being able to have your character kinda study a particular skill to have it grow all the time, not just while it's used. Also let's you take a skill that's really low that can be really risky to use while it's low (like pick pocketing and such) and build it up without the risk (just a lot slower, of course).
All in all, a pretty awesome idea, in my opinion.

I would also love to see this on linux if you do ever release source i'd be happy to try to compile it(i'd be happy to (try) help develop it. maybe i should have a look at your other forum).

This game is actually very different from mount & blade, other than the fact that they both have rpg elements with skills that grow with use.
material fix for ati card. (I test with hd5770)Chris wrote:Someone with the ATI bug try this. unzip this file and put the .material file in data/character/materials and replace the old one. the characters should appear, but be black.
