Just out of curiosity, will Kenshi have anything like earthquakes, hurricanes, etc? Might be kind of a cool thing to have as optional, upon the creation of the world. This way, the player can't really turn them on and off at a whim, but they can choose at the beginning to play with or without them.

Really now that would be too much work, i guess this should be left out at the bottom of the list you see in the features section. What Chris planned is allready demanding and i am curios how he's gonna pull it out...

Lol, actually some disasters would be pretty easy to do. Stuff like an earthquake would be really easy with physics. A hurricane or storm might be a little tougher, though.

Yeah I do have disasters and weather planned, but they are far down the todo list. Floods and sandstorms in particular. Not all that hard to do if you have a physics engine.

Floods, in a desert one would belive that is unlikely, Dust devils, tornados and sand stormes (cough same thing cough) seem more likely.

You can get floods in the desert, though they are kind of short lived. And besides, do you really want me to leave out something so fun just because its far-fetched? Hmmm?

Lol, he's right, desserts do actually get floods. Mind you, it's usually near a source of water, such as a river, but they do happen, but like he said, they're short-lived.

Not to mention, if you think about it, any settlement in a dessert isn't going to be too far from a source of water, unless the people living there are all insane.

I'll match your rehtorical question with an observation!

Thats right, your far-fetched, I forgot about that whole mammoth thing.

You know, I don't really know how much processing power it would take to do this, but if you could actually put physics into the water, then you really wouldn't even need to script floods. Simply make it so that rain actually increases the volume of water, then, if you program snow and have snow actually melt when it gets hot, then you'd have a pretty solid system for all that.

Have water actually do damage to structures based on speed/volume, then the rains could actually increase the river's height, possibly causing it to overflow into a settlement, break levies, sweep people away, etc.

Well I could do that, I'm using physX and it has fluid dynamics built in. Its probably too much to use for the whole landscape though, I was thinking more like a plane of water that can rise. Dead easy and it would still affect physics objects (ie everything) and characters, and it could still have a current. Flood season.

Haha, awesome. Hm...any chance of destructible structures, to any extent? *sneaks off to plant a keg of powder by the town's levy*

Oh, haha. Oops. Well, sorry for bringing back an already discussed subject. This forum could use a faq. XD

oh dear sweet jesus i love destruction in games. and talking about powder kegs, will primitive bombs be available?

and on a semi related note, would they not work if left out in the rain for a long time due ot dampness, e.t.c? and if you set up a camp, would it be possible to have fires, and post sentries while most of you sleep to avoid ambushes? and their attention gets progressively less and less the longer they are on duty after say 2 hours?

Eh? Rivers flooding? What about changing course over time? Alluvial Fans? Deltas?

it would be awesome if you could have your people dig a trench to do just that, and flood a rival settlement :P

No chance, the terrain is fixed, only the water levels can change.

Unless we have dams. Now thats an idea.

Lol, dam up a waterfall up in the hills, build up a huge lake, then blow the dam up and flood away a settlement? OWNED.
