I like the idea and looking forward to it! I have two questions....

Is there only one person developing this Game?

Why did you decide on Desert Land Rather than ooo i don't know Green Land with Tree's and Water... just curious =)

Hey you're pretty whack!

Yeah its just me developing the game, thought there are a few artists who help me out on the side.

Its a simple reason, I chose deserts because deserts are cool, and trees are hard.

Yay for deserts! It's nice a nice change up from the usual lush, green environments seen in so many other games, provides a wasteland-ish effect to the game (so you add kind of a Fallout feel to things) and they're a hell of a lot easier to process than forests, which means more processing power can go into the pure awesome that will soon be Kenshi.

yes deserts are nice, i think i will do an introspective one day and try to decode why i like them.
All i can say is i like a lot more a non detail landscape then one with eyecandy painted all over (eg. vegetation)

Desserts are better then forests because I dont have to strain my eyes to see enemys hiding in shrubs, behind rocks or behind tress like in Oblivion

but that works against you, (in most fps anyways) as the enemy can spot you more easily as well.

It is true that deserts has more room with trying to find food and water, instead of the other way around where there is so much, you don't know whats poison and whats not.

Well, the thing is, a desert, if well done, can have plenty of detail and work in it, as well as plenty of things to obscure vision. It also gives the potential for sand storms. >:D

But seriously, though, you throw in stuff like sand flowing through the air in the more volatile parts of the desert and you could still make it easy for stuff to sneak up on you and vice versa.

doesent matter as much against ai, they tend to cheat :P

and i agree desert is nice, but if its a large map, would it be too difficult to do a recolouration and mild reskinning when the world is generated? you could have a world generated at a size to fit your system specs, and you could have, desert, plains, tundra, that sort of thing without having to add tree's or the like, would add a bit of variety.

perhaps a small environmental change, like in very hot or cold climates you get tired faster, and so do your opponents, and youd go through food quicker in colder areas?

talking about food, is the economy active? i mean, if you blockade a village, will the inhabitants slowly starve when no one from outside comes in to trade?

and yes, sandstorm, blizzards and other harsh extremes of weather make extra challenges (y)

though, i think if your going to include that, setting up a camp should be possible, if nothing else for the shelter and to wait it out, kinda thing. not to mention during sieges it would be pretty cool to camp your army outside
