Why is there no Kick starter for Kenshi?
I have just been around on Kick starter recently looking at indie games (because AAA games have no imagination) and I realized after I got to the end of the games list, that something was missing (Kenshi). So I assume there is a good reason for this because that kick starter site seems to help very well.
Chris did an Indiegogo campaign for the game a few months back. (http://www.indiegogo.com/kenshi)
The good thing about using Indiegogo is that if you don't reach your goal, you still receive the pledged amount. I believe he is using the money from that campaign to pay a freelance artist.

I dread seeing the words kickstarter now. Everywhere on this forum that word is haunting me. There must be, what...10 threads now? Surely, if we as a community work harder, we can raise the required amount for chris. if this forums gets 100 kickstarter threads then...I dunno where I am going with this anymore, but my point is almost made.

Kickstarter.com is a place when you can post a project that is in development, people can donate to the kickstarter so the developers can finish the product, you can get rewards for helping the projects. ( For example : If you donate 100$ you will get a complete statue of you in the game )CaptHorton wrote:What is a kick starter for Kenshi mean?

well ya I saw the indiegogogo thing, but I was just wondering why no kickstarter as it does seem to work wonders. also is another way to get the games name out further. I am already following like 4 other games i found on kickstarter. Kenshi would easily be one of the most popular titles on the site.
on another note, I must say how nice it is to see people making such innovative games. Wish I was rich so I could fund everybody =P

I actually agree with starting a Kickstarter, as long as it is strategically timed. Blxz says we could fund the game as a community, but I doubt that if he talking about our currently very small forum user base. The Kickstarter home page gets millions of views, and I think is a very good way to promote the game.lordbok wrote:well ya I saw the indiegogogo thing, but I was just wondering why no kickstarter as it does seem to work wonders. also is another way to get the games name out further. Wasn't talking about funds but rather the number of threads. Was saying that if we get enough threads bitching about no kickstarter then chris might consider actually starting one.DerekRJ21 wrote:Blxz says we could fund the game as a community, but I doubt that if he talking about our currently very small forum user base.
The fact remains that kickstarter is, apparently, only for american businesses which chris does not have. He would be required to work around this issue somehow. Either by registering a business in america in order to apply (is this legal/possible/easy?) or alternatively by getting someone who already has the ability in the USA to apply on his behalf. This second possibility brings up issues of who can he trust to handle the money for him (since they would be receiving the funds) and a whole bunch of other issues.
The fact is, he knows about kickstarter; there have been more than half a dozen threads on it and the issue has been done to death on this forum. He will do it if he decides to, possibly later when he feels ready. Or it may never get done. That is, of course, his call as a developer. I just wish people would stop talking about it because it is just repeating the same things again and again.

From the Kickstarter Start Page
So, I can understand if there are legal problems getting a Kickstarter. going. You may of heard of Castle Story, an indie game that was funded using Kickstarter. Its developer (Sauropod Studios) is made up of three Canadian game design graduates. I have no idea how they actually got around this, and it was probably significantly easier for them than it would be for someone in the UK. But I maintain that if Chris can get this game on Kickstarter somehow, he should eventually do it due to the amount of exposure that website creates. Although, it is most likely a time consuming endeavor, and I can see why he would rather focus on other things.Am I eligible to start a Kickstarter project?
To be eligible to start a Kickstarter project, you need to satisfy the requirements of Amazon Payments:
Be a US resident and at least 18 years of age with a social security number (or EIN), a US bank account, US address, US state-issued ID (driver’s license), and major US credit or debit card.
Please note that anyone, anywhere (with a major credit card) can pledge to Kickstarter projects.
We’re working hard to open up to more countries. If you’ve been waiting, we really appreciate your patience.

I thought I might had heard it was something like that, so I tried to make my own kickstarter for a future product and i live in aussie and it seemed to work. also maybe if someone (trustworthy to chris) who lives in usa, they could do it or something. and set it up with Chris's Paypal or something.
