The culture of the Tsurani, would be a very nice fit for this world, with some modifications.

Yep, I loved that series. Very well written and I liked the main character and the general setting.

When I read this topic name I almost moved it to Off-Topic.

(because The tile makes it almost seem like the topic is not related to Kenshi, but rather just the book. )
As for the actual trilogy, I have not read any of it.
If it is any good I might consider it.

Read the magician series (magician is the first book, I forget the actual series name) by the same author. Same thing and some of the events are cross referenced between the two books.
But in the end they are different styles of book. I liked them both and while Magician (and others) is the more popular series I found the politics of the Empire trilogy to be really involving.

Remove the magic ,and have a mercenary status, that can form its own clans, and its a damn good fit.A system that brought the basics of " The Game of the Council" would be fantastic for kenshi
