First, let me begin by saying I am silently watching this game for some time now like I'm doing with Overgrowth, Prison Architect, Pioneers, Sir, you are being hunted, Starsector, 0 A.D, Kerbal Space Program and other indie titles (also StarDrive, but since they are going steam exclusive, I had to drop my hopes regarding that game). I love RPGs, stat or stat-less (though I do prefer my RPGs with stats, thank you) and yours is truly that next step we need in the genre. From the setting, the mood and the way you plan to integrate RTS mechanics, everything is original, creative and looking damn good. If you manage to deliver all the features you promise, you will ascend (at least to me) to the developers divine pantheon plane (the only other god that is there is Toady, by the way), forever shaping our world with your game. The only way to make this game better was if it was (largely) procedurally generated.
So, long story short, thanks for this game, you are awesome. Never give up on it.

Alas, I came to a point I cannot resist it anymore. I need to buy this. Only one thing keeps me from doing it, though. A doubt.
Will it be Steam exclusive? Will I be able to get my game outside of Steam after the final release? Do a yacht made of solid gold float?

Thanks a lot for the attention, and good luck with your project!

PS. According to the FAQ, maybe you will implement severed limbs. Please, please do this, even if the player ends forever crippled (and that would be a good feature, in my humble opinion).

The game is on Desura I believe. It is also available from this site direct for download (via BMT Micro or some such) and the game will auto update when you open it without needing to redownload or anything. I think that answers the first issue you had with it.

As for severed limbs, there has been much talk about that and I think Chris the developer has said the game will feature that. There has been talk of a possibility to restore the removed limbs via robotics but all threads about that tend to devolve quickly.

Yes, the game is on Desura, but that doesn't mean it will be not Steam exclusive (I'm looking at you, StarDrive). Oh well, I made a vote of faith in the developer, I hope he keeps a non steam version around.
You just paid 10 bucks for that key code. How silly! You probably could have pirated it instead! But you didn't. Respect. I will use that 10 bucks to hire the greatest game artist that ever lived, you have just added 10 bucks of awesomeness to the game. Be proud! Hold your head up high for you are a man of honour!

Seriously, don't lose your key code. *glare*
That made me chuckle.

Anyway, I'd still like an official answer from Chris. Also, there's still the question wherever a yacht made of solid gold would float.

And thanks a lot for the answers, Blxz.

Yay! I'm fine either way, robotic limbs or no, as long as it features severed limbs, I'm glad.

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be Steam exclusive. It's being sold on GamersGate, for instance, and in that case we may not even get a steam key based on the recent news post (I got it on GamersGate myself, but I personally don't really care about a Steam key).
... If you bought on Gamersgate, I'm not sure yet, technical reasons, so wait and see.
Even if Chris suddenly turned into a greedy money hungry tycoon, he legally wouldn't be able to just go "Okay, Steam exclusive, all of you who bought it on GamersGate didn't actually buy my game and have to buy it again on Steam."

Being a veteran in these forums (though low post count, but I've been around, trust me) I can pretty much say, that Chris seems like the guy, who just wants to code his game. He doesn't seem the greedy type. As long as he can live from the sales, he's probably not interested in more than that.

Of course, I'm going on wild guessing here, since I don't know him personally, but I think it is pretty safe to say, that such a thing will probably not happen.

@OP: Enjoy your awesome new game, sir! 8-)

steam, desura, gamersgate and so on are a plus, that's all.

The game will always be available as a stand-alone game (without the need for steam and co). That's the captains philosophy.

And no he's not greedy, in his own words (way before being Steamlit):

There was a time about 8 or 9 years ago when I had a proper programming job making an educational game aimed at schools. I did it for a year or two and hated every minute of it, and that was working from home too. I vowed I would never work in an office, or program for another man for as long as I live. Since then I have turned down 2 game industry jobs, and lived in permanent debt, and I've loved every minute of it. A man must follow his dreams!

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Need help? pm me or any other mod.
