Not sure how often I can visit the site or how active I'll be on the forums, but this project looks fascinating. A mailing list would be fantastic.

Or is there a good thread I can subscribe to that gets updated a lot?

You can subscribe to the RSS feed, that will notify you of any news or updates. Should be a little orange and grey button on the main page.
