About the Hive people...

So i have two questions about them, first one is along this:
"Hive based, serve their queens. When a queen dies, the subjects all either die or become lost “Ronin”."
Can we somehow kill the Queen? Or invaders kill them? Or even capture the Queen somehow?
Also this
"Those that spend too long far away from the hive gain more free will and individuality. Some can die instead."
So i can have an encampment of Hive-men prisoners locked up in cages and somehow recruit him? Somehow convince them when they are free willed to join us?
Something along those lines would be awesome.

It sounds to me like it will work similar to the way Cannibals work except more organized and hopefully with a greater purpose than eating unknowing wanderers.

I'd be curious to know more about the process by which they may die once disconnected from the hive. I would expect the process to be psychologically based, something along the lines of Durkheim's concept of anomic suicide wherein the subject loses all motivation to function due to a lack of purpose and abundance of options without guidance.
If the above line of reasoning seems accurate, it would be an interesting option when encountering Hive People that have either lost their queen or wandered to far to be able to use dialog skills to convince them either of a purpose for their life to make them survive to become Ronin, or convince them to join your 'Hive' (faction, etc.) and thus they'd continue living as individuals.

I should think that this would be a possibility, ransoming a queen would be particularly cool. Still don't know what Chris has in mind for the queens yet though.

Yes. Although imprisoning them might not be the best way to make friends with them ;P

Sounds like the best way, keep them trapped and away from their queen until they become independant enough to consider being recruited.

I can't see them considering joining the people who imprisoned and psychologically tortured them.
Maybe joining someone else though.

I like the structure of these guys society, but they're too tall. And haven't got enough legs. Or wings. Or honey. And they are the wrong colour. But we're getting there. Just iron out the bugs I outlined above and we're in business.

How big are the queens? are they huge, or people sized?
Will they have static settlements like the cannibals, or will they be random, and occasionally spread around?
It would be interesting if they were a faction that would contract out base building to the player.

I would be quite interested in holding a diverse faction if there are distinct dis/advantageous traits between recruitable species aside from appearances.
Such traits would be translated into changes in growth rates to each stat.
Come to think of it, if they bear bonuses to dexterity, katanas would be their best weapon class.

My understanding is that they will be physically weak, and have loyalty issues.
I have this idea of kidnapping and enslaving a hive queen. Like force all the new born hivemen to do the work for me. Though i also wonder if the queen would be ok with this....
ME: "i am kidnapping you and enslaving your people!"
Hive queen:"meh, as long as i am fed, and can pop out more workers, i do not give a shit, use the stupid A-holes for target practice, hell i am safer in your outpost then in that stupid hive anyway..."
Me:"Your reverse psychology jedi-mind tricks won't work on me!!"
Hive queen:"oh look, my stupid weak babies just got ate by cannibals. good thing i was safely KIDNAPPED, and put behind the saftey of your walls, and have this lunatic psychopath guarding my brood"
Like seriously, they are not human, they have no individuality. So a hive queen may take up the offer to be kept safely behind big walls.
And i can also see the hive men when they come to rescue the queen...
Hivemen: "we are here for our... Wait a minute, is that a well3 next to that field? and all the machinery in one convenient location?"
Hivemen:"IS THAT A BED!!!? YOU GET BEDS HERE!!?"
Queen:"shut up and get to work, this is the best place ever, you do all the work, and we don't get killed, and they have lights and running water."
Like seriously, if these guys do not have a level of sophistication, i can see them becoming easily convinced to join someone who does have that level.
Unless there is something else that they need, like hive jelly, or special nutritional needs.
