Will there ever be magic in kenshi?

In a previous build using the old UI there was a stat called magic. I do no the old build using the old UI to take a screen shot of at the moment. Is the fact that the stat has been included with this new UI mean that magic will not become part of kenshi?

On a side note is the martial arts skill for unarmed combat?

Can't say for sure. There is the nuance that science and magic bore a similarity of understanding the workings of the universe. One person's advanced technology is another's magic. More importantly is that magic would result in adding a heavy burden of work to make the mechanics, though procedurally-generated worlds are heavy enough as it is.

Per strict definition, martial arts are not restricted to being unarmed. (Take Chinese Martial Arts into account)

Per game mechanics, unarmed combat applies to martial arts, though doesn't mean you always fight with your bare hands; adding things to supplement the hand's characteristics such as brass knucles or spiked gauntlets apply. Once that stat is implemented, I would rather be keeping an eye on the mechanics to be implemented.

I, for one, would like to see a martial monk taking on sand ninjas with a two-handed blunt weapon such as a metal quarterstaff. If it's hand-to-hand, then probably those emei piercers.

Magic will not be a part of Kenshi. this has been confirmed by the Dev.

martial arts is not strictly unarmed combat. though im sure a few animations based on it will be added for the unarmed combat skill.
