Since the game really has no story that I can discern, I decided it would be a good idea for me to make one up, either for my own imagination or for the use of others.
Setting: (Post-Apocalyptic) Asian mainland.
Background: With the advent of the steam engine, so did the unified Asian Nations. The AN (Asian Nations) were unified underneath a government styled after parliamentary and Japanese feudal governments. To better explain this, lords and other nobles commanded armies of their own, while also being part of a body of governance for the country. An example would be a minor lord holding a seat in the AN Parliament and possessing a certain number of votes that this noble could then be used to influence lawmaking and other legislation. This number of votes is affected directly by the number of constituents that he possesses. The society is heavily Asian influenced so it is very gender biased.
Technology: The weapons of this era are mostly influenced by Chinese and Japanese weapons of war like spears and katana style weapons.the advent of gunpowder weaponry was present but was superseded by "superior steam weaponry". The steam weapons have a pressurized chamber that can fire quarrels or other spear like projectiles. Parts of the government were able to design very primitive robotics utilizing steam pistons and hydraulics.
Culture: One of the most common occupations in this society is that of a farmer. These farmers would be very similar to something in a Star Wars farmers using moisture condensers to collect water to irrigate their crops and digging deep wells and the desert try to obtain water from the water table. soldiery was also very common due to the feudal nature of the government. Weapons manufacture was also very profitable business to best and because of constantly shifting borders between lords and the vassals. The food was also very basic and we were lucky to get the vegetables boxes on your eating rice or engineered foods. Music was a strong fusion between Oriental music styles and Western styles often influenced by their northern neighbors the Russians who incorporated into the AN.
the actual story
Karsa
Karsa was part of one of the Western prefectures that had an even blend of different ethnicities and was often the location of contention between the main group of the AN and the newer ones that were recently annexed. As a minor Lord his duty was to protect two of his superior's villages. Karsa's home was very typical of a nobleman's abode. It was one story, of wooden construction and had housing for servants and family members. Karsa however only had his men and his servants. Karsa had lost his family when he was younger and he grew up in the care of his superior. Karsa superior was Lord Takemura who was responsible for governing the westernmost prefecture in the AN.
The sun was rising over the mountains, and I could see that dust clouds are being kicked up by winds. This could potentially be a very dry and fruitless day. My charges are beginning to grow weak from starvation because we've been struck by drought this year. The easy prefectures refuse to send aid and my treasury is almost empty because I've been importing food from the southern prefectures. I proceed into my garden where I have a bench set up underneath the shade of some trees. The trees are currently yellow wilted due to lack of nourishment. As I go to sit down on the bench, I noticed that one of my servants is approaching.
"Lord Karsa, I bear message from the village elders. They say that the wells have currently run dry and no longer have freshwater and wish you know what they are to do."
"I'm tired of hearing from the elders. Very this message back to them, they are not the only one suffering as I am suffering with all of you. We'll have to wait through this hardship and pray that rains come to ease our burden."
"That is not all Lord, we begin noticing that some of our livestock mainly goats have begun to go missing. We are unsure as to where they're going, but we require their presence for meat and milk."
"Very well, I will dispatch some of my men to investigate."
Molk
I was sitting on my bunk practicing my writing, which wasn't as good as it should have been. I don't really understand why the AN decided to use English as our standard language. Besides, most of us already spoke some form of Mandarin. Either way, I knew I was frustrated. I quickly finished the letter I was trying to write (to my sister in the eastern prefectures). I mostly wrote of how nature continues to conspire against our well being and how I was promoted to Sergeant of Lord Karsa's guard after the original Sergeant committed suicide. Very prestigious position I'd say (if only it were true).
I was beginning to unwrap my kit and do some maintenance when one of those pesky little messenger boys came up to me and stood there. Without looking up I said "What is it now Brall. As you can see I am holding a very sharp blade. I could very well put it somewhere it doesn't belong if I'm not careful."
With a sharp intake of air Brall opened his mouth-and failed to make sound. Molk looked up from his weapon and lifted it up to reflect light into Brall's eyes. "Sorry sir, I forgot what I was to say momentarily. Lord Karsa requests that you take a squad of men to investigate missing...goats."
Molk gave his blade a thorough inspection and then set it down across a cloth on his lap and proceeded to polish it. "Ahh yes. The mystery of the missing goats. It not much of a mystery lad, have you been to market recently? Some shady peddlers have been selling "beef" to anyone who is willing to pay the cost. Please inform Lord Karsa that he no longer has need of the Guard in this matter and that I respectfully request that he send the peacekeepers to remedy the situation"
Brall stood with his feet planted close together, with his arms seemingly glued to his sides "Sir, the Lord insists that you commit your men to a thorough invest-"
"I said send the peacekeepers. Now leave me be."
"Very well sir."
Karsa
It was safe to say Karsa was not very happy with the answer he received from the newly promoted Sergeant.

I am a student and I think I'll be adding to this and revising it as I go. On a side note, if some of the grammar is weird it may be a transcription error. I am using a dictation program to write parts of this.
