To-Do list before big update hits?

I feel like I'll miss the global desert, and I never got very far in the game.

What should I try to accomplish before the world gets swapped out?
Only ever had less than a dozen in my party, never started a settlement.
Just did stat grinding & reported a bug or two.

You don't have to do anything. I however created two saves. One which includes all of my people who i made sure were geared up from weapons to splint kits. Then a second save with six of my favorites because its easier to explore with small numbers. Its likely ill get rid of the small group one, and just start a new game. But if you already have a small group that's even somewhat trained a bit you're probably gonna be just fine. Mostly fine... but thats the fun of it.

Nah I mean, sentimentally, are there any sights to see or things to do before the global desert gets abolished?

there are sone cool sights to see on some of the mountains but I wouldn't be hung up on them. it is a desert afterall.

I have been robbing the armor shop in Shark to stock up on money. Just working on stats and saving money. Like LostSaint said, it is just a desert.
